Autre élément troublant, les deux structures en briques crues englobées par la muraille en pierre semblent différentes du reste de l’enceinte en briques crues de Badr.
Il s’agit d’une brique crue et d’un mortier légèrement différents, même si la taille des briques reste la même.
Dès lors, il pourrait s’agir d’une enceinte en briques de Gawhar enchemisée par al-Hakim lors de la construction de sa mosquée à cheval sur l’enceinte primitive.
La métrologie des blocs de la mosquée d’al-Hakim supporte cette interprétation…

It seems to me that this is what the text is suggesting. It is within the wall, being part of the wall-walk possible i.e. 'en chemin', having been incorporated into it at some point, The reference shows a donjon 'within' a wall.
