German term

in der Kette hängen

German to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering chain-and-bucket elevator
In the description of Wartungsarbeiten of a Kettenbecherwerk (chain and bucket elevator) the instructions for "Spannen der Elevatorkette" include "... die unteren Spindeln unter den Elevatorfußlagern ... soweit herunterzudrehen, bis die Achse frei wird und **in der Kette hängt**."
Does it mean (a) the shaft is suspended (by what?) inside the loop formed by the chain, or (b) that the chain (i.e not something else) is suspending the shaft, or (c) something else?
Can somebody enlighten me?
Proposed translations (English)

hangs into the chain

It seems to be that the spindles on either side hold the achsle/shaft bearings and it becoming free seems to be free of the elevator base props so it is the achsle/shaft hanging into the chain, although I believe there should be some kind of chain wheel/sprocket/idler
Something went wrong...
