neutral Nikki Scott-Despaigne : The French structure requires the word order in English to be changed around and more elements to be included between "principle" and "was adopted" in the English rendering.

Hello,

I think this may work, but I'm far from sure. To me, it's being used in the sense of "upheld", but not sure that is said in a "non-legal" context. Not sure if "adopted" or "chosen" is the the precise word in the context.

The French is using an impersonal construction (il a été retenu), but they're referring to the "evaluation princple" that has been supported/backed.

I hope this helps.
