copa të prera patatesh

I don't think there is an exact equivalent for 'wedges' used in the culinary field. We have certain shapes of cutting, or edible products that need to be sliced for example; I guess it all depends how you use it in a certain context.

I think wedges applies to potatoes that are cut in a certain shape to be fried as opposed to broiled or steamed and so forth.

Hope this helps :-)

"Feta të rrumbullakta" is another option referring to potatoes being sliced in a round shape, but still it does not exactly catch the right meaning for wedges, as it is a different shape, Inulek. Thanks.

patate e prere ne copatrekëndëshe/copatrekëndëshe patatesh

I agree with Ledja and Keti on using the word "thela" but just wanted to be more specific on the shape of the pieces the potato is cut into. The precise translation of "wedge" into Albanian is "copëtrekëndëshe" (singular); "copatrekëndëshe" in plural.

Peer comment(s):

agree Ledja : This is ok as a new input in Alb (though the specific translation of "wedge" is "pykë")."copëtrekëndëshe" has so far been covered by "nuskë" (but this could also be a rhombus shape). The problem in either case: a flat rather than chunky slice is implied.

thela patatesh

It is not a very common use in Albanian, but the word "thela" (plural in this case; "thelë" in singular) is usually associated with the "wedges" shape.

I found this reference in an Albanian e-dictionary:

THELË f. sh.
1. Copë e vogël mishi, pjepri etj., zakonisht e prerë
nga e tëra ose nga një pjesë më e madhe. Thelë e
madhe (e vogël). Thelë mishi (peshku). Thelë
shalqiri (pjepri, molle). Thelë djathi. E bëri thela. E
preu në thela.
2. Secila nga pjesët që përbëjnë kokrrën e disa
fryteve e që zakonisht mund të ndahen njëra nga
tjetra. Thelë portokalli (mandarine).

If "thela" is also used for pieces of cut watermelon, apples, oranges and so on (and the look of those pieces most certainly reminds one of the English wedgies) then I suppose it is safe to add potatoes to the list :).
Example sentence:

thela bostani, thela domatesh

agree Translation Link : Hi Ledja, I use this for meat being sliced usually, but have not heard it for other products such as vegetables. If it is a method of cutting, then I would certainly agree with your suggestion, which may be the closest possible in this context. Thanks.

Thanks for your vote, Keti. "Thela" is also used for say, mandarin segments and other round fruit than can be cut in this shape, be it apples, melons etc. I thought of "copa" too, but that pictures "chunks" better.
