Used to connect a flash head to the flash generator. I suspect it's a specific type of connector, but I haven't come across it yet. Have you? Unfortunately there are no pictures to clarify it.

machine connector
I'm not totally happy with this, but it's what I find in all transations of the German term and I can't do any better. In English, the term 'machine connector' is used (among other things) for a (relatively heavy duty) (ac) power connector (see first ref), but also for other types of connectors (see second ref). This also corresponds to German usage (e.g third and fourth refs).
In any case, it's definitely not a hot shoe, if only because you can't plug a hot shoe into anything...

The Adapter Cord is a standard IEC style cord with the 3 wires exposed. A wiring code is secured to each cord to allow your electrician to wire the appropriate machine connector to the cord.

Other special interface requirements are easily satisfied with new Personality Plugs designed specifically for the job. With the correct Personality Plug installed in the model X-10 or X-50 Xeptor, retrofit installation does not require any machine connector re-wiring!

Comment: "I asked my customer for information and was offered the translation "heavy duty connector" without any further clarification. I'll use that now, but I think machine connector (thanks Kenneth!) and maybe even industrial connector would work as well. Thank you all."

hot shoe
... is the term used for the socket on a camera with direct electrical connections for a flashgun. Does this work in your context?

flash connector
Still being embarrassed by my Freudian slip, there seem to be a couple of connector formats, e.g. TTLAUTO CONNECTOR TYPE3, hot-shoe etc.
Flash connector seems to be the safest bet, IMO.

Discussion
The term occurs only once. "Maschine" is not used to refer to any equipment in the text, which is why I think it must refer to the type of the connector rather than eg. its location.
