Italiano term

Tonno di coniglio

Da Italiano a Inglese Altro Cucina/Arte culinaria
This is a Genovese/Alessandrian rabbit dish (I am translating the recipe) that has nothing to do with tuna. There are some recipes on-line for reference. I have thought of translating it 'pulled rabbit' (pulled hare--ha!ha!) but I could use some other ideas. Maybe I shouldn't translate it? Tell me what you think. Thanks.

Discussion

"Tonno di coniglio" is not exactly clear in Italian either... ;-) I don't see why you shouldn't replicate the names' ambiguity. Many Italian recipes are interesting because they are very regional and they have very unusual names.
Non-ProZ.com Mar 16, 2004:
'Rabbit tuna' is exactly what I wanted to avoid because it is totally misleading and just doesn't work in English.

v.s.

You'd probably be best to leave it in Italian with a description in English.

rabbit tuna

what about \"rabbit in olive oil\"? It\'s marinated in olive oil for 2/3 days before it\'s eaten.

Marinated rabbit

or Italian Rabbit Tuna
or you could go a little further afield -
Oiled Rabbit
by the way, is it rabbit or hare? It makes a difference.
