XXXX dropped the first Dunk sneakers in 1985. Colleges were a huge part of the XXXX Dunk marketing campaign, and sneaker fans consider it the original Nike team shoe. XXXX connected to the spirit of team sports and athletics when it produced a line of Dunks for various colleges across the U.S. Each version of the sneaker would feature colorways matching the colors of a respective school. However, the absence of the shoe did little to slow its growing popularity, and the 1998 reissue of the retro Dunk High saw higher demand than ever.
