French term

marché

Non-PRO French to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) bidding document
The word 'marche'(market) is used in a strange way in this document. Sometimes it definitely means 'market', but it appears to have two meanings:
'Attendu qu'il est stipule dans le marche que l'entrepreneur remettra au Maitre d'Ouvrage un cautionnement definitif, d'un montant egal a[%] du montant de la tranche du marche correspondante, comme garantie de l'execution de ses obligations de bonne fin conformement aux conditions du marche.'
(In each case, where I have written 'marche' it has an e acute accent at the end)

Discussion

Charles Hawtrey (X) Jul 8, 2009:
Accents using Alt + (code) I've always used Alt+0130 (hold the Alt key down throughout) to type é (with Windows). On the Mac it's a lot easier...

But that ref. looks useful.

Selected

contract/ public contract

in public procurement, the "marché" is the contract or public contract

Cornu: convention ayant pour objet la livraison de marchandises ou la fourniture de services
Note from asker:
(this is really a note to a) the other people who made comments about the proz.com search, and b) about accents/the discussion) If you do not know vocabulary in a specialised area, it is rarely as good to just look the term up as it is to have other people's opinions and explanations. I can't remember whether or not I looked this particular term up - I may well have done, in fact I think the terms are listed when you ask a question - but the translation looked unlikely to me. b) thank you very much for the references about accents. I'll try that, but the way that I know to write accents doesn't work on this site on my computer. It does with ordinary word documents etc.

agree Charles Hawtrey (X) : Always been '(public) contract' in this context ever since I first met them about 35 years ago. Had me confused the first time, I admit.

agree Tony M : Yes, though this has been asked so many times before, the answer could easily have been found by doing a ProZ term search

agree Radu DANAILA : Could not agree more, Tony, a Proz term search should become a reflex action for every asker.
