La traducción automática es una realidad cada día más presente en el entorno de trabajo del traductor. La posedición se desarrolla en paralelo y está abriendo un nuevo horizonte para los traductores. Esta presentación se centra en mostrar cómo el traductor puede sacar provecho de una tecnología relativamente nueva para mejorar su productividad y qué características tiene la posedición como nueva actividad para el traductor, surgida del desarrollo de los motores de traducción automática.
Además, veremos en una demostración cómo SDL BeGlobal puede ayudar al traductor gracias a su integración en SDL Trados 2011, y cómo su potente motor de traducción automática nos ofrece un resultado muy aceptable simplemente con un poco de posedición.
Sergio Calvo Páez es un polifacético lingüista que trabaja principalmente como traductor, revisor y terminólogo de inglés y francés al español, además de profesor universitario. Es licenciado en Filología Inglesa por la Universidad de Huelva y posee el título de Especialista en Traducción por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, donde también obtuvo el Diploma de Estudios Avanzados en Lingüística y Lenguas Modernas gracias a su investigación en terminología y tecnologías del lenguaje. Su actividad profesional comenzó en Luxemburgo como traductor en prácticas en el Parlamento Europeo en el año 2000. Desde entonces ha trabajado para varias empresas de la industria de la traducción y la localización, desempeñando funciones de muy diversa índole como traductor, revisor, terminólogo, gestor de proyectos o jefe de producción, entre otros. En la actualidad compagina el ejercicio profesional de la traducción con el de profesor en la Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio, donde imparte asignaturas sobre traducción profesional, terminología, informática y nuevas tecnologías aplicadas a la traducción.
Sergio Calvo Páez is a multifaceted linguist working mainly as a translator, reviewer and terminologist from English and French into Spanish, as well as a university professor. He graduated in English Philology from the Universidad de Huelva and holds a master in Translation from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where he also obtained the Diploma of Advanced Studies in Linguistics and Modern Languages thanks to his research on terminology and language technologies. Since then, he has worked for several companies in the industry of translation and localization, playing many diverse roles such as translator, reviser, terminologist, project manager or production manager, among others. Currently, he combines his work as a translator and reviser with his work as a professor at the Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio, where he teaches courses on professional translation, terminology, computing and new technologies applied to translation.

If you want to create a glossary for a specific domain, I wouldn't say that using MT to translate it is the best way. I'd rather say that the glossary needs to be created by the linguist, to use it later to feed our translation. So, that is more related to terminology management. If you want to create a glossary for a specific domain, I wouldn't say that using MT to translate it is the best way. I'd rather say that the glossary needs to be created by the linguist, to use it later to feed our translation. So, that is more related to terminology management. In that case, the glossary can be created manually or using terminology extractors. Anyway, a final human review should be carried out. The terminology extraction process can be monolingual or bilingual depending on what document file formats and tools you have to work with.
However, if you already have a glossary and you're planning to translate it with MT, I would simply put it into SDL Trados Studio, add the SDL BeGlobal MT engine and see the results. In the MT engine is already fed with terminology from your subject field, you may be surprised by the good results.
