Source text - Turkish Batı Ermenice 2009’dan beri Unesco’nun varlığı tehlikede olan diller atlasında “varlığı kesinlikle tehlikede olan dil” olarak kayıtlıdır. Ancak anayurdu Türkiye’de dilin güncel durumuna karşı bir farkındalık ve dolayısıyla probleme çözüm sunma çalışması veya araştırması bulunmamaktadır: bu proje ile probleme farkındalık ve dilin varlığını tarihi&modern verilerle kayıt altına alma için bir adım atılması amaçlanmaktadır. Sayıları az da olsa Türkiye’de son yıllarda Ermeni dili üzerine çalışan öğrenci&araştırmacı sayısı artmaktadır ve söz konusu araştırmacılar için dilin referansı hakkında farkındalık problemi bulunmaktadır. Ayrıca araştırmacılar ve mevcut öğrenciler, dil öğrenim sürecinde kapsamlı bir sözlüğe ihtiyaç duymaktadır. Translation - English Western Armenian has been registered as “definitely endangered language” in the endangered languages atlas of UNESCO since 2009. Yet, in its homeland, Turkey, there is not any awareness for the current situation of the language, hence any study or research for providing a solution to this problem. By this project, it is aimed to raise awareness and to take a step forward to record the existence of the language with ancient and modern datas. Even though they are very few, the number of the students and researchers who study on Armenian language has been increasing in recent years in Turkey despite there is an awareness issue about the reference of the language for the researchers. Additionally, the researchers and present students are in need of a comprehensive dictionary in the process of learning the language. Thus, it is aimed to set an example with this project through rising awareness for the current sociopolitical status of the language with the anticipation of promoting a call for collaboration for the purpose of delivering a solution. Source text - French On appelle societe un groupe social, generalement nomme par lui-meme et par les autres, plus ou moins grand, mais toujours assez grand pour contenir des groupes secondaires dont le minimum est de deux, vivant ordinairement â une place determinee, ay ant une langue, une constitution et souvent une tradition qui lui sont propres.
La plus remarquable difficulte â trancher d’abord, â surmonter au cours de l’etude ensuite, c’est la deter- mination du groupe social etudie. On ne devra, en effet, pas se fier au nom que se donnent les indigenes, nom qui signifie le plus souvent: homme, noble, ete. ou est emprunte â une particularite linguistique; alors que les noms donnes par les etrangers sont souvent des termes de mepris. Deux moyens existent pour determiner le groupement: l’habitat, la langue.
1) L'habitat. Le territoire commun à un groupe d'homme relativement considérable, réputé uni par des liens sociaux, est d'ordinaire significatif d'une société. Toutefois, ce critère est souvent insuffisant, des pays entiers comme le Soudan sont composés de peuples amalgamés depuis le XIIe siècle; au Dahomey, un pouvoir central royal a pu constituer par des obligations de tributs une unité seulement politique, laissant une autonomie presque complète aux tribus soumises. Ailleurs, la diminution des sociétés suıvivantes à l’intérieur est assez nette pour que le critère du territoire soit bon.
2) La langue est un excellent critère, mais très délicat; il est très difficile de determiner un dialeçte ou une langue, sans posséder des aptitudes philologiques remarquables. En pays noir, l'existence de racines communes à l'origine de groupes très larges complique la recherche. II sera donc prudent de recourir aux linguistes.
L’emploi de ces deux moyens peut fournir des determinations suffisantes. On y joindra les indications tirees des phenomenes juridiques, de l’extension du pouvoir central, des cultes nationaux, des frontieres et aussi des indications tirees de signes exterieurs : costume, ehevelure, tatouages, ete. On fera figurer la description de tous ces signes en tete du travail.
La difficulte de determiner le groupe social s’explique par l'inexistence de la nation dans les societes primitives. La nation n’existe que dans une partie de l’Europe moderne où la sociologie montre que meme l’unification interieure est relative. Pratiquement, l’ethnographe ne constate que des interferences entre groupes et des groupements temporaires variant de l’infini â zero. II ne faut done pas se figurer une societe soudanaise ou bantoue suivant un type europeen et situee dans le temps et dans l'espace, la paix et la guerre etant exclusives d’une parfaite integrite.

Bir grubun tanımlanması için iki araç vardır: yaşam alanı ve dil.
1) Yaşam alanı: Görece geniş bir insan topluluğu tarafından paylaşılan ve sosyal bağlar aracılığıyla birleşmiş olduğu bilinen bir alan, basitçe bir toplumun varlığına işarettir. Yine de bu kriter genellikle yeterli değildir: örneğin Sudan 12. yüzyıldan bu yana karışıp birleşmiş halklar tarafından oluşturulmuştur. Dahomey Krallığı’nda merkezi krallık yönetimi, zorunlu vergiler sayesinde salt siyasal bir birliğe ulaşmış ve mükellef kabileleri neredeyse tamamen özerk bırakmıştır. Başka bir yerde, içeride hayatta kalan toplumların azalması, yaşam alanı kriterinin tatmin edici olması açısından, yeterince belirleyicidir.
2) Dil: Dil mükemmel bir kriter olmakla beraber fazlasıyla hassastır. Filolojik bir yeteneği haiz değilsek, bir dili veya diyalekti saptamak çok zordur. Kara Afrika’da, aslen çok geniş gruplardan olan ortak kökenlerin varlığı araştırmaları zorlaştırmaktadır. Bu durumda bir dilbilimciye başvurmak akıllıca olacaktır.
Bu iki aracın kullanımı yeterli tespitler sağlayabilir. Bunlara hukuki olgular, merkezi yönetimin yayılması, milli kültler, sınırlar ve aynı şekilde; giyim-kuşam, saç, dövmeler, vb. fiziksel emarelerden elde edilecek göstergeler de eklenebilir. Bu göstergelerin hepsini ilerleyen bölümlerde açıklayacağız.
Toplumsal grupları tanımlamadaki zorluk, ilkel toplumlarda “ulusun” olmayışı ile açıklanabilir. Ulus, yalnızca modern Avrupa’nın bir bölümünde vardır ve sosyoloji bize göstermektedir ki, burada bile iç birlik görecelidir. Pratikte etnolog sadece, gruplar veya geçici gruplaşmalar arasındaki sonsuzdan sıfıra kadar çeşitlenebilecek etkileşimleri gözlemleyebilir. Dolayısıyla, Sudan veya Bantu toplumu bir Avrupa modelinden yola çıkarak; barış ve savaşın, mükemmel bir entegrasyonun müstesnası olduğu; zamanda ve mekanda yerleşik bir şekilde resmedilmemelidir.
