French to English: Deux Traductions par Kenn d'Oudney.

Mankind’s Grandfather.
On France 2, the discovery which is shattering theories about our origins.
The skull found has enabled the reconstruction of Toumaï-man.
In 2001, in the Chad desert Professor Michel Brunet and his team of scientists made a staggering discovery: they excavated the fossilised skull of a hominid, i.e. a pre-human dating back 7 million years.
Older than Lucy.
The principal surprise: most experts thought that mankind’s origins were to be found in East Africa. The existence of this skull in Central Africa is therefore already a little revolution in itself. But precisely for this reason, the paleo-anthropologist Michel Brunet pointed out: "In science, truth is always temporary."
Everyone still remembers Lucy, discovered in 1978 in Ethiopia. She was "only" three million years old, our new ancestor is four million years older. Named Toumaï, which means "hope of life", he is from a generation three hundred and fifty thousand before ours.

Space: Ariane 5 puts two European satellites into orbit.
For its first launch of the year, the Ariane 5 rocket has put into orbit a Spanish military communications satellite, Spainsat, for the Spanish agency Hisdesat; and a radio and television broadcast satellite, Hotbird Seven A, for the European operator Eutelsat.
Postponed several times because of technical problems, the twenty-sixth launch of an Ariane 5, and the first of this year, went well on Saturday evening from the Kourou Space Centre in Guiana. The rocket, used in its heavy "ten ton" version, placed two European satellites into orbit.
