Russian term or phrase:
What would be the closest equivalent in English? No specific context. If some English speakers never heard it, it's what you say to somebody when they have said something that you either don't want to happen, or don't want to be the case. Couple of examples:
- I think i may have contracted avian flu.

- I wish my boss dropped dead!

- I am afraid they will raise our taxes again this year.

Whatever!

Explanation:
In modern usage, in reply to anything, implies a total lack of interest in what has been said. Not sure if this quite covers it.

neutral  Serge Driamov: no Jack. It is not the lack of interest. It means an emotional and negative attitude to what has been said.

neutral  The Misha: George, I know this must have come from some dictionary or other, but can you imagine someone really saying any of it these days?
4 hrs
-> Misha, I know that dictionaries are outdated. Yet I felt it necessary to deliver the above versions to those who possibly never opened it. For you to know, типун тебе на язык! is far from common use in Russia today...

agree  Alexandra Goldburt: Мне нравится Ваше второе предложение, Shut the hell up!
3 hrs
