German term
fachrichtungsverbindend
German to English
Social Sciences
Education / Pedagogy
I can translate "fachrichtungsübergreifend" as interdisciplinary but I don´t understand the differentiation to "fachrichtungsverbindend".

cross-disciplinary
Linking unrelated subjects.
Quote: “Cross-disciplinary” is a general term used to refer to learning activities which overlap across disciplines but remain connected by a single shared subject. Put another way, cross-disciplinary means that topics are studied by applying methodologies of other - unrelated - disciplines. Unquote
Laughably, an approach used or recommended by certain UK educators and lecturers with a grounding in only one or two discrete /self-contained/ subjects.
BTW, it's differentiation with, rather than to.

: But you can't say "interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary". They both mean the same thing.

interdisciplinary content/connects and integrates multidisciplinary content
"This study area primarily deals with multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary content."
or:
"This study area primarily connects and integrates multidisciplinary content."
My sources suggest that an "interdisciplinary" lens integrates multiple disciplines to form a new unified approach while a cross-disciplinary (multidisciplinary) approach considers various disciplines but without integrating their contents into a new approach.
"Interdisciplinary teaching goes beyond multi-disciplinary or cross-disciplinary teaching, which only requires the consideration of different perspectives, and often requires collaboration between multiple educators to properly execute." "In an interdisciplinary subject, students explore and integrate multiple perspectives from different disciplines, sub-disciplines and areas of expertise. This is different from what might be called a multidisciplinary subject which juxtaposes multiple perspectives on the same topic without integration." https://gened.psu.edu/sites/default/files/docs/LOA - Interdi...
Compare with:
"Science scenarios address connections between multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary content domains (e.g., creating stronger connections between The Nature of Science and other science content)."

interdisciplinary
Discussion
So, yes, these are indeed (sub)disciplines:
"The program allows you to focus on sub-disciplines of special education, including:
Education of Students w/ Mental & Physical Disabilities
Early Intervention
Blindness/Vision Impairments/Orientation and Mobility"
https://www.education.pitt.edu/academics/special-education/p...
But that makes things more complicated, IMO, or maybe not--to anyone, feel free to chime in here, am curious: Would you still use interdisciplinary if you're talking about subdisciplines? Is that not ambiguous?
https://www.tu.berlin/en/vp-sl/transdisciplinary-learning/ha...
@native speakers: Is there any way to play with the prefixes trans, inter and cross to differentiate?

See the Fachrichtungen chapter on page 3.
They aren't really "disciplines," I'd say. Can't be entirely sure; found something else about "Fachrichtung verbindende Ausbildungsinhalte" (written like this) and it doesn't match what I just posted. But in that case, I'd agree with Phil because the document I found isn't very helpful when it comes to differentiating between both terms.

- Not off to a good start, unfortunately. But:
