I did learn some Klingon many years ago, but it's very rusty now. I'll have to brush it up if I ever pay a visit to the Empire.

I can speak fluent eggy-peggy though, and sing the whole of "Hello Dolly" backwards...

Esperanto Jun 20, 2016

I was the weird teenager who liked to learn Esperanto instead of playing outside with friends. During school time whenever one of my best friends and I wanted to communicate about private things, we did so in Esperanto.
I can still read most of it, but in order to be able to speak it fluently again, I will definitely have to polish it up again (that's an understatement).

Several years ago I took classes in Ido and Esperanto, but then stopped. Can't remember why?

Speak? Jun 20, 2016

Are these languages actually spoken regularly, or only in "forced" environments? I thought they were used for specific purposes or had a specific intent. I really don't know much about them, but we actually don't hear a lot about them either. I wonder if there are communities where any of these is actually an official language, where the kids go to school and are taught subjects in these languages, where periodicals are published in these languages, etc.

What for? Jun 20, 2016

I think we must preserve the existing NATURAL AND REAL languages, particularly those dying.

Yes, Esperanto has a specific intent: foster international communication.

but we actually don't hear a lot about them either.

I have never heard a real person speaking Portuguese, but based on solely my personal experience I would not say that Portuguese is not actually spoken

A good starting point to have answers to other questions is Multlingva Informcentro pri Esperanto.
