Source text - English DEATH ON FATHER’S DAY
The prosecution had assembled an array of forensic scientists to support their argument that Eu had been lying when he told police that Yu Hong Jin had stabbed him first and that he has acted in self-defence. The prosecution's argument would be that events had unfolded in the reversed order. Eu, they would say, had strangled his lover in a jealous rage. He had then stabbed her and “arranged” the scene by stabbing himself and placing the knife in the dead woman’s hand. After that he had passed out from the pain of his self-inflicted injuries.
The defence's expert, of course, would be presenting evidence that suggested Eu had been telling the truth.
Frustratingly for the Singapore public, which was agog at the case, the hearing was then adjourned. Everyone would have to wait two whole months to hear the first of the forensic scientists give evidence.
The first scientist to testify was HSA’s senior consultant forensic pathologist, Dr Wee Keng Poh. It was his job to examine a victim's body to establish the cause and manner of death. In this case, given that there were two clashing narratives about the death, his evidence was going to be especially important.
