They are all part of a freelancer’s life. If I have to name one, I’d risk saying “acquiring new technical skills”. For the others, I haven’t been seeking new clients for a while so I don't know if now is harder than before. I’m quite happy with the bunch of customers I have: interesting projects paid at my rates and on my conditions. For the others, I haven’t been seeking new clients for a while so I don't know if now is harder than before. I’m quite happy with the bunch of customers I have: interesting projects paid at my rates and on my conditions. Usually, clients come to me through word of mouth (referrals from colleagues and clients = networking), Proz, ATA, TC and my website. I have been translating for such a long time that managing the business side of things is not a problem and even something a like doing (above all, invoicing!). Finding new clients is a challenge for me right now, because my biggest client may just evaporate in the very near future.
Admin was a huge challenge for me at first and I still hate billing, but it's now just something I have to bribe myself to do with a bar of chocolate.
While I'm always interested in learning more about my specialist subjects, I really don't feel like learning new techniques or software. If I can keep working at least until I reach retirement that'll suit me fine
