Hello,
can you please advise if I should assume any/partial/full compatibility in the following situation:

I get source MemoQ files. Can they be opened in WordaFast Pro? How about backwards compatibility i.e. WordFast-MemoQ. Does .tmx secure a full compatibility as for TM content.
How about Termbase management?

Thanks in advance for any hekp of those who experience the same path.

The native memoQ export format (.mbd) cannot be opened by any other program than memoQ. The export format designed for interoperability with other tools is XLIFF. You may or may not open XLIFF documents in Wordfast Pro. There are instructions for dealing with generic XLIFF files here:

but Yasmin will probably tell you they are meant for basic XLIFF files only. You would need to try with a sample XLF from memoQ and see how the round-trip works.

Generally speaking, compatibility is better the other way round: memoQ has a filter for TXML files, so you can translate them in memoQ instead of Wordfast Pro.

Exchange of memories via TMX is usually a lossy process, especially if there's a lot of formatting involved. Terminology can be exchanged relatively well, but memoQ termbases contain far more fields than Wordfast Pro glossaries, so you may not be able to import all the metadata contained in the memoQ termbases.

If I were you, I would install a trial copy of memoQ (which is fully functional for 45 days) and use it to test the round-tripping with sample documents.

You need to ask for Trados format exported files.
I could work it out as one of my clients requests me to use memoq for some jobs, fortunately they provide me with a temporary licence.
As my favourite tool is WF Classic I download a Trados format file and then upload a tmx to work with memoq. It usually does mean some extra work, but it is still worth the effort for me.
