A demanda por fontes alternativas de energia tem crescido notavelmente nos últimos anos, principalmente por aquelas que possam contribuir para mitigar as emissões de CO2, característica das fontes tradicionais de energia fóssil.
Os biocombustiveis derivados de biomassas renováveis para uso em motores a combustão interna, surgem como uma alternativa interessante para atender parte dessa demanda, tendo em vista a possibilidade de sua utilização parcial ou total, em substituição aos derivados de petróleo em motores automotivos ou estacionários.
Em função disso, está ocorrendo um crescente interesse na produção de biocombustíveis, por conta da elevação contínua dos preços dos combustíveis fósseis, e da possibilidade de captar recursos internacionais por meio do Mecanismo de Desenvolvimento Limpo–MDL (“Clean Development Mechanism-CDM”) do Acordo de Kioto, ou do mercado internacional de créditos de carbono.

The demand for alternative energy sources has notably grown in the last years, mostly for those that can contribute to mitigate the CO2 emissions, characteristic of the traditional sources of fossil energy.
The biofuel derived from renewable biomass to use in engines with internal burning, come up as an interesting alternative to supply part of this demand, because of the possibility of its partial or total use, in substitution of the petroleum derived in automotive or stationary engines.
Because of this, an increasing interest in the biofuel production is hapening, caused by the usual raise of the fossil fuel prices, and the possibility of captivate international means through the Clean Development Mechanism-CDM (“Mecanismo de Desenvolvimento LimpoMDL”) of the Kioto Agreement, or of the internatinal market of carbon credits.

Source text - English MATERIALS AND METHODS
Four leatherback turtles,two adult females, one adult male and one sub-adult of undetermined sex were fitted with satellite tags (Satellite Relay Data Loggers, SRDLs, manufactured by the Sea Mammal Research Unit, St Andrews, UK) along the SWA (see Table 1 for details). Three of the tags were deployed by on-board scientific observers (Programa Nacional de Observadores Abordo de la Flota Atunera - PNOFA, Dirección Nacional de Recursos Acuáticos, DINARA, Uruguay) on leatherbacks incidentally captured during pelagic longline fishing operations targeting swordfish, tunas and sharks in the SWA. The turtles were entangled on the mainline and branch lines of the fishing gear. The fourth tag was deployed on an adult female that was brought to the beach after incidental capture in an artisanal bottom-set gillnet in the Rio de la Plata (RP) estuary, Uruguay (Table 1).

Quatro tartarugas-de-couro, duas fêmeas adultas, um macho adulto e um sub-adulto de sexo indeterminado foram equipados com rastreadores via satélite (Calculadores de Dados Transmitidos por Satélite (Satellite Relay Data Loggers), SRDLs, fabricados pela Unidade de Investigação de Mamíferos Marítimos, St Andrews, Reino Unido) ao longo do SWA (ver Tabela 1 para detalhes). Três dos rastreadores foram implantados por observadores científicos a bordo (Programa Nacional de Observadores a bordo de la Flota Atunera - PNOFA, Dirección Nacional de Recursos Acuáticos, DINARA, Uruguai) nas tartarugas-de-couro acidentalmente capturadas durante as operações de pesca pelágica com espinhel, dirigidas ao peixe espada, atuns e tubarões no SWA.
