Positivt.

The Ry-mountain for the second time. Chilly, nine degrees Celsius, kept my jacket on. Since I have an enormous quantity of hours in my legs from the last few weeks, I had no major expectations. 40.43 last time, now 40.26! My body feels sluggish, and I have an average heartbeat of three beats lower than previously, but still a better time. Encouraging. I want to reach 39 to feel safe.
Heidi started talking about cleaning yesterday. Again. If there’s one thing with me that she doesn’t like it’s the cleaning – the lack of cleaning. And I agree and I don’t know why it’s so difficult for me to improve. I blame society, the zeitgeist, the culture. I grew up in an unequal world, thus I become the same. My parents are too nice.
But since I know this, Heidi thinks I must be able to change. And she’s right.
Curtain replacements and the like I will never prioritize. The toilets on the other hand, and the kitchen, must be clean. You shouldn’t get sick from living in your home.
Heidi told me that there is more in a kitchen than the table and the kitchen counter. It must also be clean under the sink, behind the stove and inside the fridge. I didn’t tell her of the silverfish I found in the soup-plate this morning.
“And the freezer? When did you last defrost it?”
“Usually gets done when you change accommodations”, I answered.
Heidi just looked questioningly at me. I realised that I hadn’t been at home on those occasions either. She and her parents cleaned out last time we moved. And before that, my brother Mathias took over my flat in Umeå. I brought the stuff I wanted to keep and left the rest to its fate. He has hinted, once or twice, that my actions during the move was far from perfect. Among other things, he spent half a day scrubbing the bathtub.
It was the same during my military service, where I used to sneak out and hide in a bunk bed in the barrack room next door every time a thorough house-cleaning was on the schedule. My deficiency when it comes to keeping order, both will and knowledge, has followed me through life.
Anyway, after our dispute we decided that Fridays would be a good day to tidy up. Get the flat all clean before we gather in front of the TV for a nice and cosy evening, with tasty food and wine. I can imagine us sitting contentedly in the evening, discussing how good our life is, a glass of white wine in our hands – which have been empty a couple of times – and then we mate.
