Source text - English Before we dive into any design or coding work, we need to step back and define our terms. What is it we’re trying to do and how does it differ from what we’ve done before? If you’ve already built some web applications, you’re welcome to skip ahead to the next chapter (where we’ll start to get a bit nerdier), but if you’re interested in getting some general context then keep on reading.
What Is a Web Application?
If you’re reading this book, you probably have a good idea of what a web application
is, but it’s worth defining our terms because the label has been routinely misapplied.
A web application is neither a web site nor an application in the usual desktopian
sense. A web application sits somewhere between the two, with elements of both.
While a web site contains pages of data, a web application is comprised of data with a separate delivery mechanism. While web accessibility enthusiasts get excited about the separation of markup and style with CSS, web application designers get excited about real data separation: the data in a web application doesn’t have to have anything to do with markup (although it can contain markup). We store the messages that comprise the discussion component of a web application separately from the markup. When the time comes to display data to the user, we extract the messages from our data store (typically a database) and deliver the data to the user in some format over some medium (typically HTML over HTTP). The important part is that we don’t have to deliver the data using HTML; we could just as easily deliver it as a PDF by email.
Web applications don’t have pages in the same way web sites do. While a web application may appear to have 10 pages, adding more data to the data store increases the page count without our having to add further markup or source code to our application. With a feature such as search, which is driven by user input, a web application can have a near infinite number of “pages,” but we don’t have to enter each of these as a blob of HTML. A small set of templates and logic allows us to generate pages on the fly based on input parameters such as URL or POST data.

이 책을 읽고 있다면 당신은 아마도 웹어플리케이션이 무엇인지에 대해 잘 알고 있겠지만 종종 용어가 잘못 사용되는 경우가 있기 때문에 이에 대한 정의를 할 필요가 있다. 웹어플리케이션은 웹사이트나 일반적인 데스크탑에서의 어플리케이션이 아니다. 웹어플리케이션은 양쪽의 성질을 모두 가지며 그 둘 사이 어딘가에 위치하고 있다.
웹사이트는 데이터를 지닌 페이지를 가지고 있는 것에 반해 웹어플리케이션은 데이터로 구성되며 별도의 제공 방식을 가진다. 웹 접근성 팬들이 CSS를 통한 마크업(markup)과 스타일(style)의 분리에 대해 열광할 때 웹어플리케이션 디자이너들은 실제 데이터의 분리에 환호한다. (마크업을 포함할 수 있음에도 불구하고) 웹어플리케이션 상의 데이터는 마크업과 아무런 상관이 없을 수 있다. 웹어플리케이션의 토론 부분을 구성하는 메시지를 마크업과 별개로 저장하고 사용자에게 데이터를 보여주어야 할 때 (대개 데이터베이스인) 데이터 저장소에서 메시지를 꺼내와 어떤 매개체를 통해 어떤 형식으로 (대개 HTTP를 통한 HTML으로) 전달한다. 중요한 점은 이메일을 통해 PDF로도 전송할 수도 있는 것처럼 꼭 HTML을 통해 데이터를 전송해야 하는 것은 아니라는 점이다.
웹어플리케이션은 웹사이트와 같은 의미의 페이지를 가지고 있지 않다. 어떤 웹어플리케이션이 10개의 페이지를 가지고 있는 것처럼 보일 수 있지만 그 어플리케이션에 마크업이나 소스 코드를 추가하지 않고 데이터 저장소에 데이터를 추가하는 것 만으로도 페이지의 수가 늘어나게 된다. 사용자의 입력에 의해 추진되는 검색과 같은 기능에서 웹어플리케이션은 무한에 가까운 페이지 수를 가질 수도 있으나 그 것이 각각에 페이지에 대한 HTML을 모조리 입력해야 한다는 것은 아니다. 적은 수의 일련의 템플릿과 로직(logic)을 통해 URL이나 POST 파라미터(parameter)를 바탕으로 동적으로(on the fly) 페이지를 만들 수 있다.

앞에서 이미 한국의 지구단위계획과 주민협정에 대한 소개와 함께 주민협정 체결지구를 대상으로 사례분석을 통해 주민협정의 역할과 문제점 등에 대해서 살펴보았다. 기성시가지화 되어가고 있는 도시들에 있어서 법적인 근거를 가지고 있는 도시계획제도들 만으로는 지구의 환경보전과 개선에 한계가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서, 변화하는 도시적 상황에 신속하게 대응이 가능하고, 개발에 의한 주변의 도시적 여건의 변화에 유연하게 대응이 가능한 수단으로써 일본의 마찌즈쿠리 협정제도에 주목하여 이들의 사례분석을 통해 한국의 주민협정 제도 체결과 운영에 있어서 시사점을 제시해보고자 한다.
일본의 경우, 마찌즈쿠리 협정제도가 법제도적인 근거와 구속력이 없고, 그 실효성을 담보할 수 있는 수단이 없는 점 등의 제도적인 단점을 고려하여, 이를 보완하기 위한 수단으로써 지구계획과 병행하여 지구환경의 보전과 개선을 위해 활용하고 있는 사례들이 증가하고 있다.

In the previous chapters, along with the introduction to District Unit Plan and Resident Agreement Program, the functions and the problems of Resident Agreement have been examined through the case studies of the districts where Resident Agreement has been signed. It was shown that the cities with developed areas or that are undergoing such development are limited in conserving and improving the environment, if those efforts are backed solely by the government mandated urban planning only. As a responsive measure to the urban environment this is both swift and flexible to the continuously changing circumstances, Machizuguri Agreement Scheme with its case studies shall be discussed in this chapter, in comparisons to the current Resident Agreement Program in Korea.
Machizuguri Agreement Scheme in Japan does not carry any legal basis or bindings, nor does it have any means to guarantee effectiveness. In order to complement these systematic shortcomings, the scheme is run in conjunction with district plans for conservation and improvement of the district environment, and the number of such cases is increasing.
