This is from a report of a patient who came to the hospital with chest pain ... 'dolore toracico da circa 2 ore' + cute algida, diaforesi. La sintomatologia regredisce dopo **2 puff di nitrati s.l.** Si imposta beta-bloccante per tachicardia ... ecc."

It's really the s.l. that confuses me here because I think it means 'sublingual' but I don't understand how a person can receive 'puffs' of a nitrate medication sublingually. Is there another meaning of s.l., or what is happening here that I don't understand?
