Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Sep 16, 2004:
I have found a compund term ion the Collins Dictionary saying that "promotori finanziari" are merchant bankers; coupled with "con mandato" ie; authorised, this condensely means something like "authorised merchant banker".

Italian is very much more idiomatic with it's financial language, in that it does not have as many litteral and specific terms as English does. Thank you for your help.

Like a 'captive insurance co.', they act only for companies within a group as opposed to 'pure' financiers & consultants. See Ital. weblink.

I don't think they are 'licensed merchant bankers'.

Hope - from your profile - you're asking these days for money UPFRONT for big, urgent jobs from quantities unknown. Let the jobs go if there's reluctance to discuss such terms.

I am not a native English speaker, therefore I can only try and help you to understand what we mean by promotori finanziari. They are actually the sales people who call on prospective customers to illustrate their financial offerings (funds and the like) in the hope of selling them. I would appreciate if a native speaker could finally provide me with a good translation of the term!
With mandato would mean that they received a mandate from a bank or financial service company.

Today I worked at a conference organized by a major Swiss bank in Milan. The audience was made up of their \"promotori\". I asked them whether they had found a good translation for the term, and they said that either they leave it in Italian or they translate it as \"client advisors\".
