German term

kundenseitig

German to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing Lamps
I find the German "kundenseitig" always a bit tricky...
Does it mean to be provided by the customer or on the customer's site?

Heizung Ein/Aus über Taster oder kundenseitige potentialfreie Kontakte.

So my translation reads: Heating system On/Off by pushbutton or floating contacts to be provided by the customer.

Discussion

Martin Wenzel (asker) Jun 27, 2007:
"kundenseitig" remains difficult... in the translation because the German adjective does not express whether it has been done as in "provided by the customer" or it still needs to be done as in "to be provided by the customer"....
Michael Harris Jun 19, 2007:
You are right, provided by the customer

I would agree completely to your translation; in connection with construction and engineering, "kundenseitig" refers to materials, facilities and equipment provided by the customer (which is normally at the construction site as well) (I've translated a lot of construction contracts); you might also leave out the "to be" IMHO
