a) zwykła większość głosów - stosunek ważnie oddanych głosów „za” do ważnie oddanych głosów „przeciw”, natomiast głosy „wstrzymujące się” nie mają znaczenia i nie są brane pod uwagę,
b) bezwzględna większość głosów - więcej niż połowa głosów oddanych, czyli stosunek głosów „za” do - łącznie - głosów „przeciw” i „wstrzymujących się”,
c) kwalifikowana większość głosów - oznacza szczególną większość głosów, większą niż bezwzględna większość, określona w konkretnym przepisie i zastrzeżona dla istotnych z punktu widzenia spółki czy wspólników spraw, określona może być na pułapie 2/3, 3/4 czy 4/5 głosów ważnie oddanych,
d) jednogłośne uchwały - wszystkie głosy są „za”.
Ustawa Kodeks spółek handlowych, zgodnie z art. 245, wyraża generalną zasadę, że uchwały zgromadzenia wspólników zapadają bezwzględną większością głosów, jeżeli przepisy ustawy lub umowy spółki nie stanowią inaczej. Ustawa ustanawia odstępstwa od tej reguły.
