As set down in your notes, there are 3 methods of pengeringan udara; absorption is just one of them.

If absorption is translated into pengeringan, then a specific term gets generalized (here, a specific method represents a generic process). Logically/scientifically, this is to be avoided, because absorption cannot represent the other two methods (adsorption and refrigeration).

From grammar standpoint, pengering is a tool / device, representing dryer, whilst absorption is a process (=drying). Indonesian uses a combination of affixes pe / an to describe a process.

Asker: Hi Erich, I have used the word pengering to translate absorption because it sounds closer to the meaning of Absorption (air drier) referred to Compressed air working systems: http://www.energymanagertraining.com/GuideBooks/3Ch3.pdf Air Dryers There are certain applications where air must be free from moisture and have a lower dew point. Dew point is the temperature at which moisture condenses. This calls for more sophisticated and expensive methods to lower the dew point of compressed air. Three common types of air dryers used are heat-less (absorption), adsorption and refrigerated dryers. They produce dry air with -10°C to -40°C dew point, depending on the type of dryers. Refer Table 3.17 for moisture content in air and Table 3.18 for typical pressure dew point and power consumption data for driers.

Asker: Hello Mr. Laut, would you please explain me why you have changed "terkompresi" in "dikompresikan"? I have always found only udara tekenan or udara terkompresi. Besides, I have not clear enough why you have added "sebesar". Thank you in advance for your precious help!
