I'm looking for the meaning of the automotive term "بنكة" in Yemeni Arabic.
All I need is an explanation which part of the vehicle the term "بنكة" is actually indicating.
The correct corresponding term in English is not necessarily required.

| Thank you Hany. So obviously it not part of the frame but rather some sort of sheet metal plate. Given the overall context (body work on rear right side of the vehicle etc.--cf. source text examples above), I venture that the part in question should best be rendered in English as "fender". |

| شكر جزيلا للأخ فؤاد من المعروف أن البنكة في الإمارات وغيرها من دول الخليج هي المروحة بيد أن السياق في النص اليمني الوارد في سؤالي يستبعد أن ينطبق هذا المعنى على القطعة المشار إليها في المصدر لأن المروحة عادة لا تصلح بالسمكرة كما لا توجد في الجانب الخلفي الأيمن للسيارات أية مروحة يمكن أن تتعرض لتهشم بسيط... مع تجديد الشكر فما رأيكم |

: البنكة كلمة هندية تعني المروحة ولعل جواب الاخ فؤاد لا ينطبق على السياق الذي وردت فيه الكلمة في النص اليمني. هل يمكن ان تكون الكلمة منحوتة من كل بامبر الانكليزية والتي تعني دعامة السيارة؟

البنكة هى كلمة يمنية من أصل عدنى وتستعمل بمعنى قطعة الحديد فى السيارة والذى يبدو لى هو أن النص يتحدث عن الأكصدام الخلفى للسيارة والذى يشير النص إلى أنه مصنوع من الحديد

It appears to be rather unlikely that our term means bumper, because it is usually called "صدام" in Yemeni dialect and bicycles are generally not fitted with bumpers. Given all this context, I'm now wondering whether "بنكة" could be another term for fender. Thoughts? |
