ऐस्प का वृक्ष पॉपलर जैसा ही होता है, इसे ऐस्पन ही लिखा जा सकता है।

यदि भारतीय संदर्भ नहीं है तो ऐस्पन या ऐस्प वृक्ष ही लिखा जाना चाहिए। क्योंकि ऐस्पन Salicaceae परिवार के वृक्षों का आम नाम है। भारतीय संदर्भ में विशेषतौर पर उत्तर भारत में इस परिवार की Populus deltoides प्रजाति पाई जाती है जिसे हम पॉपलर के नाम से जानते हैं। विदेशों में पॉपलर नाम हर जगह "पॉपुलर" हो, आवश्यक नहीं।
