Italiano term

commercializzazione

Da Italiano a Inglese Marketing Pubblicità/Pubbliche relazioni U.K. English
Not urgent. No context. I'm just curious.
As a speaker of U.S. English, I always translate this as "marketing," but I have also seen "commercialisation," which has a negative meaning in the U.S.
Is 'commercialisation" correct for a U.K. audience?

Discussion

Denise DeVries (asker) Feb 27, 2006:
still no context I just finished translating a contract in which it appeared in a list of general duties of the contractor. The client gave me another contract as a sample, and that one had "commercialisation of the product" in the list.
I'm interested in the general range of options.
And sorry about the misspelling; I only slept a few hours and needed more "zzzzzzs"
Angie Garbarino Feb 27, 2006:
Hi writeaway she said she has no context, I am curious too, what is your opinion?
writeaway Feb 27, 2006:
how is it used in your text? context can play a role.

Commercialisation

Like all words - it depends on the context . The Italian word is generally used to cover the range of activities from production/marketing/distribution/sales.
The following definition is more technical and does not necessarily carry negative overtones in English.
Commercialisation - the final stage of the new product development process in which the decision is made to put the new product into full scale production and to launch it. See New Product Development; Product Launch.

agree Gian : Noun 1. commercialisation - the act of commercializing something; involving something in commerce; "my father considered the commercialization of Christmas to be a sacrilege"; "the government tried to accelerate the commercialization of this development";
