I’ve just finished translating EN/PT a letter from the NHS to a patient and I’m waiting for a revision project (also EN/PT). 1 user I’m translating EN/PT two more user manuals (hair trimmers) (2,465 words) for my long-standing customer. 1 user I’ve just finished translating EN/PT a hairdryer user manual for my long-standing customer (1,752 words). 2 users I’m translating EN/PT a Privacy Statement (2,820 words). 1 user I’ve received yesterday (?) a small transcreation EN/PT to be delivered on Monday. 1 user I’ve received Friday afternoon to be delivered Monday EOD two new files from my long-standing customer (all EN-PT, 2,593 words in total). 1 user I’m starting to translate EN/PT 3 instruction booklets of different fabric steamers (same brand) (circa 5,000 words). I’ve just finished introducing the changes made to the Political Declaration for the general assembly of an European regional organization I translated two weeks ago (EN/PT, 585 words). After a so-so February - things only picked up during the second fortnight - I’ve just received this morning two files from my long-standing customer (all EN-PT, 3,250 words in total). 1 user I have been translating two urgent certified documents both EN/PT (a will + a death certificate) to be delivered later today. 1 user If I didn't already know that the life of a freelancer is always feast or famine, I would have learnt it today, because after a very slow fortnight things are suddenly picking up: I’ve just received three projects in a row from my long-standing customer, all EN-PT, each with around 2,500 words, enough to keep me entertained... 3 users I'm currently entering the changes made by the client into the original text of a translation that has already been delivered and paid for. 1 user I’ve just delivered two translations to my long-standing customer (FR/PT and EN/PT: 1,670 words in total) 1 user After a well-deserved, albeit unexpected, break, I'm starting to translate all the documents for the plenary session of a European regional organisation I've been working with for almost 20 years. This time it's the conclusions of the last assembly (ES/PT, about 2,500 words). 1 user These last days I have been translating EN-PT a very interesting report on Africa’s structural transformation (circa 8,000 words). I have been rather busy since the beginning of the year with my regulars and even some new faces (will they turn into regulars?): edition of a whistleblower policy (EN/PT, 2,500 words), translation of two audio guides (both FR/PT, 5,450 + 2,100 words), adaptation from PT(br) into PT(pt) and proof-reading of some medical documents on eating behaviour, suicide and glycaemic episodes (EN/PT, 18 hours), translation of a pizza oven instruction book + packaging (EN/PT, 8,100 words), translation of two product information on acoustic panels (EN/PT, 2,100 words)… 1 user I’m giving the final touches to the long legal translation (ES-PT) I have been working on the last 10 days or so. In the meanwhile, I received an update to an audio guide I’ve translated 5 years ago (FR-PT) and a revision from a new client (EN-PT). Is 2024 going to be a busy year? 1 user I have been working on a large and complex legal project ES-PT (35,000 words) scheduled to be delivered the second week of January. 2 users I was booked last week for two legal translations (FR-PT: 7,500 words + ES-PT: 25,000 words) that are supposed to come next week and in the meanwhile I received from my long-standing customer a small translation EN-PT (900 words) of a curling wand instructions. 2 users I’ve been doing the proof-reading of 13 medical documents translated into European Portuguese and what initially seemed a straightforward job turned into a bit of a nightmare: some documents are written according to the old spelling and others according to the new and to top it off one is written in Brazilian Portuguese… 1 user My first week of December was busy and varied with several small translations (EN-PT, paper products, 1,606 words; FR-PT, hair stylers instructions, 2,288 words; EN-PT, citizen engagement, 2,429 words). As often happens, it was followed by a rather quiet week: one edition job (a lease agreement, EN-PT, 8,194 words) and one proof-reading job (checking the PDF of a document on wasting and stunting I translated last month). 1 user I had a very busy fortnight: I’ve finished the large project on sustainability checks in WASH before the deadline and I managed to do a lot of other translations to my regulars: 1 translation EN-PT on wasting and stunting (7,842 words), 2 transcreations EN-PT (500 words each), 6 translations FR-PT and EN-PT of hair tools instruction manuals (3,868 words), 3 legal translations FR-PT (200 + 336 +1,570 words). All in all, it was a good month work-wise… 2 users1 user Since the middle of October, I have been translating (EN/PT and FR/PT) a series of small documents but now I’m starting to translate a big project (35,000 words) on sustainability checks in WASH. Let’s start working… 1 user I’ve just delivered 4 translations EN-PT on climate change to a repeat client (circa 2,500 words). 1 user I’m translating EN-PT a PPE User Manual for a new client to be delivered tomorrow (circa 1,500 words). 1 user After a very quiet second part of September, things show signs of picking up again: translation EN-PT of a press release on climate change for a new client (450 words); translation EN-PT of a book’s preface for WFD2023 (1,050 words); final check of a video subtitles, also for WFD2023; translation ES-PT of a document on digital transition and economic recovery for a meeting next week (3,599 words)… 1 user It looks like I’m having the first relaxed weekend following 3 weeks of intense and varied work: 1 translation + 1 revision (EN-PT) of some sustainable packaging solutions; 1 EN-PT translation of a website (probably the last step of a very long project I have been translating since January); translation and proofing of 3 juice labels; translation EN-PT of a vape device; translation FR-PT of a professional disinfectant solution box user instructions; revision of a technical sheet for a photovoltaic panel; translation EN-PT of 3 gaming devices; translation IT-PT + ES-PT of some legal documents… 2 users Today is my first rest day since the beginning of the month, weekends included! After a crappy July, August has been non-stop - an interview guide: 8,500 words FR-PT; a tourism website: 47,200 words IT-PT; an application development framework: 21,100 words EN-PT… 3 users So goes the life of a freelancer: after a terrible July with almost no work at all, all hell broke loose in August and lots and lots of projects are coming my way. I wonder why my customers are working so hard this month (I’m not complaining though). 1 user Another job for my longest-standing customer, this time is a styler instructions manual (1,350 words) (EN/PT + FR/PT). 1 user (edited) I’ve delivered yesterday an urgent translation EN-PT of a trimmer instruction manual (840 words) and I’m starting now to translate FR-PT two very similar shaver safety instructions (2,900 words), all for my long-standing customer. 1 user I’m starting to translate FR-PT a series of interviews and questionnaires on a subject matter I really care about and I’m experienced in – migration (7,000 words). 1 user I’ve translated during the weekend and delivered this morning an animation script (EN-PT). 1 user I’m translating EN-PT the instruction manual of a trimmer for my long-standing customer (1,200 words). 1 user I’m doing the final check (proof-reading) to a Pdf I translated last week and then I will start translating EN-PT an activity book (circa 6,500 words). I’ll probably work during the weekend and take one or two days off afterwards unless other work comes my way… Did yesterday a small confidential translation EN-PT for a new client… I have been translating for over thirty years and one hand is enough to count the times a client has sent me an urgent request over the weekend, but there are always exceptions: I’ve just received an urgent request for an EN-PT translation of a bibliography. Though it's only a few words, it will mean a bit of work because I have to search one by one if the references have been published in PT. So goes the life of a freelancer... 1 user I’m translating EN-PT a press release of a new paper based thermal protection liner and a small add-on to a translation I did last month (hair dryer). 1 user A quiet day so far: just making a few changes and add-ons required by the client to the WFD23 brochure and the 60” video script… 1 user I’m translating EN-PT the operating instructions of a new hair dryer to be delivered tomorrow to my longest-standing customer (1,600 words). 1 user |
