I don't know about changing my opinions completely but translations have given me insight into subjects which I normally wouldn't (have the time to) think or read about in such depth.

It would probably be an exaggeration to say that translating a project had changed completely my opinion but over the years a few opened my eyes to things I didn’t even know existed…

For me, it's all about LEARNING. An unlearned opinion on anything is a GUESS. I learn all the time, with every project. Therefore new information may show me whether my guess - if I had any - was right or wrong. I wouldn't have an OPINION that could be completely changed, based on scanty information. It would have been just a guess.

Not on an entire subject, for sure, but certainly on many aspects or themes or facts.

Like Ian and Teresa, I haven't completely changed my opinion on anything but I have certainly gained insights into topics or situations that I knew little or nothing about . This is especially true for texts I have translated for Translators Without Borders that are usually about projects in developing countries.

And my subjects are not very controversial; however, it would probably be possible.
