MetaTexis for Word

4.6 out of 5
Out of 5 user reviews.

MetaTexis is not a stand-alone-program. It runs in Microsoft Word®. This means that all MetaTexis functions can be accessed through Microsoft Word®. Nevertheless, MetaTexis is very powerful and offers many functions and options you will not find in any other CAT tool. The great advantage of the integration in Word is that you do not have to learn a completely new program. You only have to learn some new functions. At the same time, all functions of Microsoft Word® are available. Technically, MetaTexis integrates itself into Microsoft Word® as a COM-Add-in (file "MetaTexis.DLL", located in the MetaTexis program folder). As MetaTexis is a COM-Add-in, it has a shorter start-up time, and many functions perform faster than in the case of normal add-ins. (Note: The COM-Add-ins technique was introduced with Microsoft Office 2000®. For this reason, MetaTexis is not available for Microsoft Office 97®.) Besides the COM-Add-in, there is also a normal add-in ("MetaTexis.dot", also located in the MetaTexis program folder). This add-in is the interface between Microsoft Word® and the MetaTexis COM-Add-in.

5 out of 5 Easy to use, reliable
Review by
Andrea Jarmuschewski I use MetaTexis for all my translations, even when no CAT tool is required. Very reactive Customer care. Joining the Yahoo group is a good idea too, the MetaTexis owner is very present.
When the original document is a Word file, I can deliver Trados-like bilingual word files if requested.

4 out of 5 Very good and inexpensive tool
Review by
Ladislav Filo (X) MetaTexis is very good tool for translators. It is inexpensive, has good and fast support and is localised into many languages. Installation file is very small. Spellchecking uses MS Word spellcheckers.
Working with very large source files is slowed down, it is better to split such files into smaller ones, process them separately and then merge them again.
MetaTexis can directly proces Trados .ttx files.
Learning is easy, because MetaTexis runs in MS Word environment.

How easy is it to learn?

A very good workung horse
Review by
Wulf-Dieter Krüger . Good for text translations. I have been using it for a very long time and as long as Word can read the file format everything is just fine.
I use it on a daily basis.
For more complex texts (with a lot of illustrations/tables etc.) one might have to use another CAT-tool.

Plug-in for Word, the best tool for a freelancer
Review by
Nick Chuban . This tool is a real treasure. Very simple. You do not leave the Word document. Only two frames are added (source and translation, over/under). You can see clearly everything in the center of your screen. Compare with Trados (e.g. 2011) where actually you are allowed to 'own' about 1/4 of the total screen screen area, while the rest is overloaded with rarely used or unnecessary functions.
A couple of years ago I tested WordFast, Deja Vu, Transit, Trados. And finally my choice was Metatexis.
