memoQ translator pro is a computer-assisted translation tool which runs on Microsoft Windows and on Mac using Parallels or VMWareFusion. It was envisioned more than 12 years ago by a group of enthusiastic linguists who aimed to develop innovative translation software which increases translator's productivity while being easy to learn and use.
Translation memory
memoQ features a state of the art translation memory which stores your translations and helps you reuse them. The translation memory boosts productivity and consistency throughout your project. With a translation memory in place you will never need to translate the same thing twice.
Term base
memoQ posses an advanced term base for handling terminology. With it, you can extract terms from files and translation memories, import your existing glossaries, combine bilingual glossaries into multilingual ones, or easily add new terminology as you translate.
The Muse
Muses offer automatic suggestions for target terms as you type. Muses are “trained” by analyzing content that is available from your translation memories and LiveDocs corpora. The more content available, the more precise and personalized the suggestions will be.

Bartholomew Hulley . As a CAT tool it's not bad. However, the quality of the coding, licensing and support has convinced me that an open source solution is the only way forward. The main issue with Memo Q is that it's license does not include lifetime upgrades to patch problems with the software, for that privilege you have to pay for an annual service agreement. Worse still if you decide not to pay for this service and find a problem with the software further down the line they insist you pay back-service charges from the time when your last service period expired. I find this approach unethical and thus refuse to give Kilgray any more of my hard earned cash for their buggy software.

How easy is it to learn?
High performance, no crashes, feature-reach, support for "foreign" formats (SDL Studio, Transit, WordFast)

Wladyslaw Janowski . I have used and I'm still using quite all main "standard" CAT software, since early versions of Transit. memoQ is the best one, I have worked with until now. Users' wishes are implemented very fast, development is still under way, bugs are fixed very fast, very good and fast reacting support, optimized code, so even very sophisticated features are not making the tool work slow and the translator wait and have a daydream until the actual action is finished (as some others tools do).
Some features are missing, but as the development is very fast and Kilgray is strongly user-oriented, one can expect, they will be implemented briefly.
Ability to divide the main window among 2 or more monitors would be great, but if you have 2 monitors, you can easily resize the main window and let Results window show on the second monitor, still having a lot of place for another applications and the main window remains well organized.
Because the software is not slowing-down my work, I can translate so fast, I can think and type. Not necessarilly obvious in other CAT software.
Whereas SDL is leading a campaign under the slogan "Do you want translate 4000 words instead of 2000 per day?" (not literal citation, but sufficiently exact), Kilgray could answer "Well, so move to memoQ" and IMO this would be more accurate. In fact, Studio is very (or even too) flexible because of a multitude of settings not necessary at all for most freelancers, but there is still something going too slow and wait times ar sometimes very, very long.

jadetranslate . Read few forum posts and I was under the impression that this software was going to be easy. So I decided to take the 45 days trial. I actually found it very complicated with so many options I don't even know where to start and I could not figure out how to create the final translation.

How easy is it to learn?

Cristiana Coblis . I own this tool and have used it regularly for the last 6 years. I recently upgraded to the latest version (8.2).
Pros: Some of my clients work exclusively in the tool. In hindsight, it would have been much cheaper and smarter for me to use those ELM licences, which some clients are happy to provide.
Cons: - The interface is unintuitive, it's difficult to find what you are looking for. It is simply not optimized for translators working all day in front of a computer.
- In the last 3 years, I did not notice any improvements or features that have helped my own productivity when translating with the tool. The same good old bugs are still present. This leads me to believe that development in the last few years has been focused on something else. I do not know what.
- Overall, I would say I am less productive when using this tool compared to similar tools. This is due to poor interface, poor workflow optimization, disruptive annoying shortcuts and popups that are difficult to change and hinder instead of helping, etc.
- It is painfully obvious that the developers do not use the tool to see how unproductive it is and that there are few actual users of the tool to provide feedback to improve it.
- There is a self-congratulatory mentality within the company that is simply delusional. This cripples innovation and has led to a sad stagnation of the tool for several years. With the latest version, it is painfully obvious they are trying to catch up to other tools and fail to be competitive.
- Rambling uninformative webinars focused on irrelevant features.
- The latest versions (8.xxx) install on some machines, not on others. No reason or solution found so far. Had to revert to 2015 on my desktop.
- Their ELM licencing system distorts the market and encourages unfair competition from translators who do not want to invest in technology.
- All things combined, a MemoQ licence is much more expensive than other superior tools. I do not feel it's money well spent.

Hazel UnderwoodThis is by far the best tool available at the moment and I've tried them all. It is extremely user friendly, the QA function is extremely easy to use, and most importantly it is compatible with lots of other tool file formats.
What is more, the support service is second to none, and the fact that you get support even if you only have the free version is amazing. I could never see Trados doing this!
