The life cycle of greenhouse-grown Madonna lily was characterized well in Germany [4]: from October till November, when the inflorescence starts to elongate, the bulb develops sideways from the bud a secondary meristem that in turn develops into a bulbil. From November till February the side meristem reaches a diameter of 5‒10 mm and a height of 10 mm from the basal plate, forming scales constantly. From early February till June the bulbil develops at a steady rate. In early April, before flowering, the bulbil develops roots. Upon flowering, in May, the bulbil forms first rosette leaves and its scales thicken. In summer the seeds develop and the aboveground organs wilt. Following the inflorescence's wilting in July‒August, the bulbil meristem becomes the main meristem and forms rosette leaves, while the scales' edges elongate and pop out of the ground in early August (in nature, rosette leaves form only in autumn).
