English to Romanian: DEVELOPMENT OF A SPECIAL YOKE FOR FITTINGS REPLACEMENT IN THE BIGGEST 600KV HVDC OVERHEAD LINE General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Energy / Power Generation
Source text - English Close the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the first 600kV and still world's biggest HVDC overhead line been completed, some of the main structures, started to present significant damages in the shackles and support fittings of the insulator chain. With span load of almost 100KN, these damages could bring serious problems. Despite this line have a complete set of live line tools, for this application there wasn't anyone able to this kind of operation. So, FURNAS, the utility that operates the ITAIPU power lines, contract a recognized manufacturer of live line tools, RITZ, to develop special yokes for displacement of the shackles, once the penalty for turning off this power line would be around 1575MW/h, according to Brazilian electrical sector laws.
The original fittings were sent to the manufacturer where the cross arm was assembled and specialized engineers have designed and produced a special yoke with a special aluminum alloy capable of supporting the highest load ever found in a suspension live line situation. With this special tool, FURNAS have replaced the damaged fittings for two years successfully and kept avoid paying the penalties with their 600 and also their 765kV power lines, the most important in the country but also, with the most expensive penalties.
Translation - Romanian Odată cu apropierea aniversării a 20 de ani de la finalizarea primei şi celei mai mari linii aeriane de înaltă tensiune în curent continuu de 600kV, unele dintre structurile principale au început să prezinte deteriorări evidente la inelele de cuplare şi fitingurile de susţinere ale lanţului de izolatoare. Având o sarcină de aproape 100kN, aceste deteriorări pot cauza probleme serioase. În ciuda faptului că această linie este echipată cu un set complet de unelte pentru lucrul sub tensiune, pentru această aplicaţie nu s-a reuşit identificarea unei companii capabilă să efectueze o astfel de operaţie. Aşadar, FURNAS, serviciul care exploatează liniile electrice ITAIPU, a semnat un contract cu un producător renumit de unelte pentru lucru sub tensiune, RITZ, pentru producerea unor bucle speciale de cuplaj pentru înlăturarea inelelor de legătură, deoarece penalităţile stabilite pentru scoaterea de sub tensiune a acestei linii electrice s-ar situa în jurul a 1575MW/h, conform legislaţiei braziliene din sectorul electric.
Fitingurile originale au fost transmise producătorului, unde a fost asamblat braţul transversal, iar ingineri specialişti au proiectat şi fabricat o buclă specială de cuplaj, dintr-un aliaj de aluminiu capabil să reziste celei mai mari sarcini întâlnite vreodată într-o linie aeriană aflată sub tensiune. Cu ajutorul acestei unelte speciale, FURNAS a reuşit să înlocuiască cu succes fitingurile avariate timp de doi ani şi a reuşit să evite plata unor penalităţi atât pentru linia electrică de 600 cât şi pentru cea de 765kV, cele mai importante din ţară, însă şi cele mai costisitoare în ceea ce priveşte penalităţile aplicate.

Source text - English The design of the TMF has been sized to accommodate, in addition to the tailings and water effluents of the processing plant operations, a very large rain storm/snow melt event. The design criteria specify that the TMF will have capacity to store two Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) events and still have the additional capacity of one meter of freeboard. The two PMF volumes are generated from the runoff of a Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) event - which amounts to two 1 in 10,000 year rainfall events occurring within the same 24 hour period. In the unlikely event of a larger runoff, the excess water would be discharged from the emergency spillway in a controlled manner that would not endanger the structural stability of the dam. The spillway is designed to pass a 1 in 10 year flood event that is assumed to occur immediately after the two PMP events; the 1 in 10 year flood is assumed, for study purposes, to be discharged through the spillway despite the remaining capacity of the one meter of freeboard. The probability of an overtopping type release of water is extremely low, due to the capacity and design criteria of the project TMF rockfill dam.
Translation - Romanian Bazinul de decantare a fost astfel proiectat încât să cuprindă, pe lângă sterili şi apă provenite din operaţiunile de la unitatea de procesare, şi apa provenită de la o furtună sau din topirea zăpezii. Criteriile de proiectare arată că bazinul de decantare va avea capacitatea de a stoca apa provenită în urma a două Inundaţii Maxime Probabile (Probable Maximum Flood - PMF) şi încă să mai rămână capacitate de un metru înălţime de gardă. Cele două volume PMF sunt generate de apa provenită în urma unei precipitaţii Maxime Probabile (Probable Maximum Precipitation - PMP) – ceea ce înseamnă cantitatea de apă provenită din două căderi de ploaie în 24 de ore, probabilitatea fiind de 1 la 10.000 de ani. În cazul puţin probabil al unei inundaţii mai masive, se va evacua din barajul de urgenţă, într-o manieră controlată, astfel încât să nu se pună în pericol stabilitatea structurală a barajului. Barajul de urgenţă este proiectat să reziste la o inundaţie cu o probabilitate de 1 la 10 ani, aşteptată să apară imediat după cele două evenimente PMP; inundaţia cu o probabilitate de 1 la 10 ani este considerată, pentru studiu, a fi evacuată prin barajul de urgenţă în ciuda capacităţii rămase de un metru înălţime de gardă. Probabilitatea unei revărsări de apă peste baraj este extrem de scăzută, datorită capacităţii şi criteriilor de proiectare caracteristice barajului din rocă sterilă construit pentru bazinul de decantare al proiectului.

Hold the Right Upright (89) against the Right Upright Spacer (91). Be careful not to pinch the Upright Wire (88). Tighten the M10 x 95mm Patch Bolt (8) and the M10 x 68mm Patch Bolt (114) until the heads of the Patch Bolts touch the Right Upright; do not fully tighten the Patch Bolts yet
