Source text - French Les crypto-monnaies constituent en quelque sorte l’équivalent de l’argent liquide sur Internet. Elles reposent sur des principes de cryptographie ainsi qu’un système décentralisé d'ordinateurs qui pourrait être comparé au réseau de partage de fichiers BitTorrent. Il n’existe pas d’organe central de régulation, c’est le réseau d’ordinateurs qui créé la monnaie et certifie les transactions.
Il est important de noter également que par définition, les crypto-monnaies sont aujourd’hui toutes des monnaies alternatives puisqu’aucun pays n’a adopté de crypto-monnaie comme monnaie fiduciaire.
L’intérêt de créer une crypto-monnaie réside notamment dans l’absence de banques jouant le rôle d’intermédiaire des échanges. Cet état de fait permet une interopérabilité totale des moyens de paiements et ce, sans frais de commission bancaire. Tout individu peut donc envoyer et recevoir des paiements de façon sécurisée sans compte bancaire. Les crypto-monnaies peuvent être considérées comme de véritables expériences numériques et scientifiques dont l’importance pourrait croître encore davantage dans les prochaines années.
De nombreuses crypto-monnaies ont été développées comme le fastcoin, le quark, le litecoin, le dogecoin ou encore le solarcoin. La plupart sont assez similaires et sont des initiatives dérivées de la première implémentation complète de crypto-monnaie : le bitcoin.
Le bitcoin a été créé en 2009 par Satoshi Nakamoto, pseudonyme de son créateur dont la véritable identité reste encore inconnue à ce jour. Il s'agit d'une monnaie électronique ainsi qu’un système de paiement sécurisé et anonyme entre particuliers. L’idée de son concepteur est de pouvoir payer dans le monde réel des biens en bitcoins mais aussi de pouvoir échanger des bitcoins contre d’autres devises sans nécessité d’adossement à une institution financière. La valeur du bitcoin repose donc premièrement sur la confiance qu’ont ses utilisateurs dans le fait de pouvoir échanger cette monnaie au sein d’une communauté. Deuxièmement, la valeur du bitcoin tient à sa rareté qui ressemble en ce sens à l’or. En effet, les bitcoins ont été conçus pour être émis de façon lente et régulière jusqu’à atteindre un volume maximal asymptotique de 21 millions de bitcoins dans quelques décennies.

Rather than a central regulatory body, the computer system creates the money and certifies transactions.
It should also be noted that, by definition, all existing cryptocurrencies are alternative currencies as no country has adopted a cryptocurrency as its official currency.
One of the biggest advantages of cryptocurrencies is the lack of banks as intermediaries for exchanges, allowing for complete interoperability of payment methods – without bank fees. This means any individual can securely send and receive payments without the need for a bank account. In this sense, cryptocurrencies can be considered a genuinely digital and scientific method, and could well grow in popularity in the next few years.
Lots of cryptocurrencies have been developed – the fastcoin, the quark, the litecoin, the dogecoin and the solarcoin to name but a few. Most are quite similar to one another and derive from the first fully implemented cryptocurrency: the bitcoin.

Source text - French La cimentation d'un cuvelage est une opération qui consiste à mettre en place un coulis de ciment entre la paroi du trou foré et un tube en acier, appelé cuvelage de production (production casing), préalablement descendu dans le puits. Le principe de l'opération est le suivant : le coulis de ciment ou laitier, fabriqué sur le chantier de forage est pompé par l'intérieur du cuvelage et remonte ensuite dans l'espace annulaire en chassant la boue.
Le coulis de ciment qui se présente (au moment de son injection) sous forme d’un mélange d’eau et de ciment anhydre (poudre minérale) qui forme en présence d’eau, une pâte de ciment cohésive faisant prise par réactions chimiques exothermiques, appelées réactions d’hydratation. Celles-ci sont à l’origine d’une augmentation progressive de la résistance mécanique et de variations du volume de la pâte de ciment.
L’annulaire de ciment obtenu ou gaine de ciment ainsi réalisé doit être continu et imperméable. L’épaisseur de cette gaine de ciment peut varier de quelques dizaines de mm à 30 cm (annulaire propre), et jusqu’à 80 cm dans le cas de cave présente par exemple dans les roches karstiques).
La cimentation est un élément essentiel du forage d’un puits car elle conditionne la sécurité du réservoir au niveau du puits. Elle permet d’assurer :
• l’étanchéité entre le cuvelage de production et la couverture et d’empêcher le gaz de cheminer et remonter dans les couches supérieures, voire jusqu'en surface ;
• d’isoler les nappes aquifères (de composition variable et à des pressions différentes) entre elles ou avec la surface et ainsi de contrôler une venue accidentelle d’eau voir de gaz ;
• de protéger les cuvelages d'une éventuelle détérioration dans le temps, notamment contre les phénomènes de corrosion ;
• d’assurer la tenue mécanique du cuvelage.
Translation - English Casing cementation is an operation involving the placement of cement slurry between borehole walls and steel tubes (known as production casings) installed in wells. The premise of this operation is as follows: the cement slurry or slag cement, produced at the drilling site, is pumped into the casing and up through the annular space, thus driving out the mud.
The cement slurry, at the point of injection consisting of a mixture of water and anhydrous cement (mineral powder), forms a cohesive cement matrix which cures through exothermic chemical reactions known as hydration reactions. These gradually increase the mechanical resistance and alter the volume of the cement matrix.
The resulting cement annulus or cement sheath must be solid and impermeable. The thickness of the cement sheath can vary from tens of mm to 30cm (annulus proper), and up to 80cm in the case of caverns present in karst rock, for example.
Cementation is a crucial aspect of well drilling as it ensures the safety of well reservoirs. It provides:
• a seal between the production casing and the caprock, preventing the channelling or ascent of gas into the upper levels or to the surface;
• isolation between aquifers (the composition and pressure of which can vary) or between aquifers and the surface, thus mitigating the accidental influx of water or gas;
• protection against the gradual deterioration of casings, e.g. as a result of corrosion;
• assurance of the mechanical strength of the casing.

Dem Bahnhofplatz kommt eine Sonderstellung unter den Berner Plätzen zu. Als modernes Stadttor zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe der Altstadt ist er nicht nur eine wichtige Drehscheibe für den Verkehr, sondern hat auch eine repräsentative Aufgabe zu erfüllen.
Grenze zur Altstadt
Der Bahnhofplatz umfasst heute den Stadtraum westlich der Spitalgasse, begrenzt von Christoffelgasse, Bubenbergplatz und Bollwerk. Der Bahnhofsplatz liegt am Ende des mittelalterlichen Zentrums von Bern.
Kopfbahnhof
Der erste Berner Bahnhof befand sich zwischen Heiliggeistkirche und Burgerspital und war ein Kopfbahnhof mit viergleisiger Bahnhofshalle. Im Auftrag der Schweizerischen Centralbahn entstand er 1858-60 unter der Leitung ihres Chefarchitekten Ludwig Maring und des Ingenieurs Wilhelm Pressel. Der Bahnhofplatz lag über hundert Jahre auf der Ostseite der Gleisanlagen, zwischen heutigem Bollwerk und der Nordfassade der Heiliggeistkirche.
Durchgangsbahnhof
Bereits 1870 erarbeitete die Schweizerische Centralbahn ein Projekt für einen Durchgangsbahnhof auf der nordwestlichen Seite des Burgerspitals. Für den Bau wurde ein Teil der grossen Schanze abgetragen und das alte Bahnhofsgebäude zur Empfangshalle umfunktioniert. Mit dem Bahnhofsneubau von 1960-66 wurden die Gleisanlagen erweitert und überbaut. An Stelle der alten Empfangshalle entstand eine Verkehrsfläche und mit der Christoffelunterführung ein unterirdischer Stadtzugang.
Umgestaltung
1989 forderte das Berner Architekturbüro Atelier 5 in einer Projektstudie die Umgestaltung des Bahnhofs, die Aufwertung des ebenerdigen Zugangs als Haupteingang, Fussgängerverbindungen zur Innenstadt und einen verkehrsfreien Bahnhofplatz. 2003 erhielt das Empfangsgebäude eine zeitgemässe Fassade.
Projektwettbewerb 2001
Die heutige stadträumliche Grundidee ging aus einem Projektwettbewerb hervor, den die Architekten Marchisella & Wellmann aus Zürich gewannen. Die Legislative lehnte das Kernstück des Entwurfs, der ein Glasdach auf Traufhöhe der Heiliggeistkirche vorsah, jedoch ab. Die drei erstprämierten Wettbewerbsteilnehmenden (Marchisella & Wellmann, Bürgi & Raaflaub sowie Atelier 5) erarbeiten daraufhin unter Leitung des Stadtplanungsamts eine städtebaulich akzeptierte Lösung. Der Umbau des Bahnhofplatzes erfolgte 2007-2008.
Alt und Neu
Ein 2008 fertiggestellter Baldachin aus Stahl und Glas schafft einen zeitgenössischen Kontrast zu den umgebenden Gebäuden. Der Stahlbau besteht aus zwölf eingespannten und verkleideten Stahlstützen. Die darunter gehängte transparente Haut zählt 528 Glasplatten. Mit einer Ausdehnung von 85 m Länge, 11 bis 41 m Breite und 3 bis 10 m Höhe überspannt und prägt sie den Platz.
Schwungvoller Wetterschutz
Der Baldachin verleiht dem Bahnhofplatz eine schwungvolle Note. Zugleich bietet er den Reisenden einen Wetterschutz, wenn sie von der Bahn zu Bus und Tram wechseln.
Zukunft Bahnhof Bern
Der wegweisende Bahnhofsneubau der 1960er-Jahre stösst heute an seine Kapazitätsgrenzen. Mit dem Projekt «Zukunft Bahnhof Bern» haben Kanton und Stadt Bern, SBB und weitere Beteiligte ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt gestartet. In zwei grossen Ausbauschritten soll der Bahnhof Bern, der neben dem Bahnhof der SBB einen Bahnhof des Regionalverkehrs Bern-Solothurn RBS beherbergt, für die künftigen Anforderungen gerüstet werden. Bis 2025 sollen der RBS-Bahnhof ausgebaut und eine neue Westpassage mit zweitem Hauptzugang beim Bubenbergzentrum erstellt werden. Bis 2035 ist eine seitliche Erweiterung des SBB-Bahnhofs mit vier zusätzlichen Gleisen geplant.

Bahnhofplatz is among the most important squares in Bern. As a modern gateway to the Old City – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – it not only serves as an important transport hub, but also plays a symbolic role.
Boundary of the Old Town
Today, Bahnhofplatz spans the area west of Spitalgasse up to Christoffelgasse, Bubenbergplatz and Bollwerk. It lies on the boundary of Bern’s medieval centre.
Old terminus
Bern’s first railway station, a terminus with a four-track concourse, was originally situated between Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Ghost) and Burgerspital (Citizens’ Hospital). It was built between 1858 and 1860 for the Swiss Central Railway under the direction of its chief architect Ludwig Maring and engineer Wilhelm Pressel. For over a hundred years Bahnhofplatz was on the eastern side of the track, between present-day Bollwerk and the northern façade of Heiliggeistkirche.
Through-station
As early as 1870 the Swiss Central Railway was developing plans for a through-station on the north-western side of Burgerspital. Its construction called for the demolition of part of the Grosse Schanze (the larger of the city’s two redoubts) and the conversion of the old station into a reception hall. For the reconstruction of the station between 1960 and 1966, the tracks were extended and overbuilt. A circulation area was put in place of the old reception hall, and an underpass provided covered access to the city.
Redevelopment
In 1989, as part of a feasibility study, Bern-based architecture firm Atelier 5 suggested redeveloping the station, turning the ground-level access areas into the main entrance, providing pedestrianized access to the city centre and designating Bahnhofplatz as a vehicle-free zone. In 2003 a contemporary façade was added to the station building.
Project competition, 2001
The basic premise for the square’s current layout was proposed during a project competition, won by Zurich-based architecture firm Marchisella & Wellmann. However, the core proposal for a taller glass roof (up to the eaves of Heiliggeistkirche) was rejected by the legislative authority. The three competition winners (Marchisella & Wellmann, Bürgi & Raaflaub and Atelier 5) subsequently worked under the direction of the City Planning Office to come up with a suitable solution. Bahnhofplatz was eventually renovated in 2007-2008.
Old and new
The glass and steel structure known as the Baldachin (the Canopy) stands in modern contrast to the surrounding buildings. It is supported by twelve clad and fixed-ended steel uprights. The transparent roof consists of 528 glass panes. Measuring some 85m long, 11-41m wide and 3-10m high, this imposing structure covers virtually the entire square.
More than your average shelter
The Baldachin not only adds a little pizazz to Bahnhofplatz but also protects travellers from the elements as they swap train for bus or tram.
What next for Bern Railway Station?
The station building, pioneering at the time of its construction in the 1960s, is now at full capacity, prompting the City and Canton of Bern, the Swiss Federal Railway (SBB) and other stakeholders to launch the ‘What next for Bern Railway Station?’ project. By virtue of two major developments, Bern Railway Station – which houses not only the SBB station but also the Bern-Solothurn regional station (RBS) – will be adapted to meet future demands. First, for 2025, the RBS station will be extended and a west passageway added with a main entrance at the Bubenbergzentrum. Then, for 2035, the SBB station will be extended laterally to include four additional platforms.

August 2010 ist an diesem Wasserlauf nach starken Regenfällen ein großer Murgang (Geologen bezeichnen ihn als „debris flow“) entstanden, und zwar von der höchsten Stelle des Beckens bis hin zur Querung der Erdgasleitung, die sich in der Nä-he der Mündung in die Aare befindet. Dabei sind große Mengen an Geröllmaterial trans-portiert und bedeutende Kräfte erzeugt worden, so dass es an vielen Stellen zu einer Erosion des Flussbettes gekommen ist und ein Großteil der zum Schutz der Erdgaslei-tung eingerichteten Befestigungen zerstört wurde. Außerdem ist bei diesem Ereignis auch der künstliche, zum Schutz der Straßenüberquerung des Flusses eingerichtete Tunnel beschädigt worden; auf einem Stück wurde die Erdgasleitung freigelegt.
Aus Gründen der Sicherheit sind nach dem oben beschriebenen Ereignis die nachste-henden Maßnahmen ergriffen worden:
• Einrichtung eines Monitoring-Systems, das in Realzeit ein Alarmsignal an die Straßenquerung abgibt. Dieses System ist an der höchsten Stelle des hydrogra-phischen Beckens positioniert, d.h. in dem Bereich, wo sich das möglicherweise instabile Material befindet.
• Abstützung des direkt oberhalb der Leitungsquerung vorhandenen und zum Schutz der Straße eingerichteten künstlichen Tunnels.
• „Kontrollierte“ Regelung des Fahrzeugverkehrs.
• Betriebsunterbrechung der Erdgasleitung.
Translation - English On 12 August 2010, following heavy rain, a major debris flow occurred along the watercourse, spanning from the highest point of the basin all the way to the gas pipeline crossing near the tributary’s mouth to the Aare. This debris flow carried large quantities of coarse gravel and rock and generated significant force, resulting in the erosion of the river bed at several points and the destruction of most of the reinforcements protecting the gas pipeline. An artificial tunnel built to protect the road crossing over the river was also damaged. At one section, the gas pipeline was exposed.
For safety reasons, the following measures were taken in the wake of this event:
• Establishment of a monitoring system at the highest point of the hydrographic basin, i.e. where any unstable material is likely to be, providing a real-time alarm signal at the road crossing.
• Reinforcement of the artificial tunnel protecting the road, directly above the pipeline crossing.
• Road traffic ‘controls’.
• Shutdown of the gas pipeline.
