She was X-rayed to determine the extent of her injuries. She was taken to the operating room. Her convalescence was long, but she recuperated well. She was discharged several weeks after being admitted to the hospital.
C. This 62-year-old male was found by his wife kneeling on the kitchen floor clutching his chest and having breathing difficulties. He was taken to the hospital by an ambulance. He was examined in consultation with other doctors. After specialized tests, he was diagnosed with a blood clot in the lung. The treatment was successful and the patient was discharged 13 days later.

La elección del próximo martes no se perfila bien para los demócratas. Es natural que el partido en la Casa Blanca pierda escaños en la legislatura federal durante los comicios de medio término. Sin embargo, el panorama luce peor de lo normal no por la oposición sino por la aparente deserción demócrata.
El presidente Obama fue electo en medio de una fuerte crisis financiera y con expectativas exageradas de los votantes. Los pocos republicanos desesperados que lo apoyaron en ese momento ya regresaron a su partido, los votante independientes que votaron por el cambio durante una crisis económica se cansaron de esperar y los demócratas están desilusionados porque no se cumplieron sus deseos.
Este desencanto es curioso porque según la filosofía demócrata, los dos primeros años de Obama debiera reconocido por sus logros al aprobarse una reforma médica federal, una ley de supervisión de Wall Street y estimulo federal para salir de la peor crisis económica desde la Gran Depresión. Estas medidas no fueron lo progresistas como algunos esperaban, pero eso no le quita importancia a la magnitud de lo obtenido.
Ocurre que hoy dentro de las filas demócratas existe una miopía de algunos sectores incapaces de superar la frustración de que “su tema” no haya sido resuelto; de no reconocer que se requiere pragmatismo paciencia cuando se es gobierno.
Por ejemplo, hay latinos que amenazan con no votar por la falta de una reforma migratoria, otros votantes gays están molestos por la política de “no preguntar, no decir” en el Pentágono y los ecologistas porque se reabrieron las perforaciones en alta mar. La ausencia de este voto demócrata el próximo martes puede ser lo más devastador de la elección.
Esta es una prueba de madurez política dentro de las filas demócratas, cuyos votantes deben superar el síndrome de la “agenda de un solo tema” por una visión mas amplia de la realidad política.
Si no lo logran hacer pondrán en peligro el futuro de la misma administración que respaldaron hace dos años con tanto entusiasmo.

Next Tuesday’s election is not looking good for the Democrats. It is natural for the party in the White House to lose legislative seats in the midterm elections, but the outlook seems worse than normal, not because of the opposition, but because of Democratic defection.
President Obama was elected in the midst of a major financial crisis and voters’ expectations were excessive. The few desperate Republicans that supported him at the time have already returned to their party; the independent voters who voted for change during an economic crisis have tired of waiting; and Democrats are disappointed because he failed to make their wishes come true.
This disenchantment is curious, because, according to Democratic philosophy, Obama’s first two years should be recognized for his achievements in passing federal healthcare reform, a Wall Street oversight law, and a federal stimulus to climb out of the worse economic crisis since the Great Depression. These measures were not as progressive as some expected, but that does not make the magnitude of the achievements any less significant.
But today’s Democratic ranks are displaying a shortsightedness in some sectors that are unable to overcome the frustration that “their issue” has not been resolved or to recognize that pragmatism and patience are required in government.
For example, some Latinos are threatening not to vote due to the lack of immigration reform. Some gay voters are upset by the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in the Pentagon, and environmentalists are up in arms because deep sea drilling has been reopened. The lack of these Democratic votes next Tuesday could represent the most devastating turn in the election.
This is a problem of political maturity within the Democratic ranks, whose voters must get over their single-issue politics to find a broader vision of political reality.
If they don’t do this, they will endanger the future of the very administration they supported two years ago with such enthusiasm.
