"I'd love to go!" (this was my wish...) I don't seem to get it right with the dates. For the 20th at Rosario, Argentina, I'll be here; and for this one over here, I'll be in Argentina! I'm annoyed with circumstances :(:::: Anyway, enjoy everyone!!
Lack of a program on Sunday has delayed my confirmation and payment for now and with only two weeks until the conference, I don't see how I can make arrangements at all!

The dates: The Conference main program will cover 2 days: Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 November 2004, from 9am to 5pm Social events will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening.
The venue: St.Hugs's College, St.Margaret Road, Oxford, OX2 6LE
Space available: Marplethorpe Hall (250 seats) and 2 other rooms for 45-60 seats each on the College premises.

The Convention program is still under refinement in terms of exact content, but we will have the following:
Tax issues for UK based freelancers A representative of a tax consultancy firm will talk about tax legislation and issues relevant to freelancer translators based in the UK. A brief session with questions and answers will follow.
CAT tools training Products presentations, training and special offers by leading products' representatives.<... See more

Word macros for translators How to make MS Word work and obey to any of your wishes. Macro development for absolute beginners and something for the already initiated. If you come with a laptop and any version of MS Word installed, you will be able to follow and replicate the examples during the presentation.
The agency side A translation business representative will offer to freelance translators a view on the other side of the translation business.
Focus groups All participants can submit a topics for an interest group, for example financial, or literary, medical, legal translators, or localization, etc... The meetings gathering at least 20 persons having common interests will be given a time slot and a space to meet (within availability). Please submit your subject to [email protected] and an outline to publish, to attract other interested members.

Participation is on spontaneous basis. The meal cost is not included in the event fee.

Why do you charge VAT? It's compulsory for any service purchased and used in the UK. The UK rate is 17.5%
Who pays VAT? All participants based in the EU, including the UK, if they are not VAT registered. For business registered for VAT, this is not a cost, as they will be able to claim it back. Other users are considered as final consumers and cannot claim back VAT, but they can still claim all costs, or most of them, as business expenses.

Oxford has an excellent, well-established park & ride system to protect this ancient seat of learning from modern day traffic. And there's a direct bus from Stansted to Oxford:
