How do I provide a Certificate of Translation Accuracy? Thread poster: Sandy Herrera

I've been asked to provide a Certificate of Translation Accuracy by a new client that lives in the U.S.A. I live in Mexico, and I've never done this before or even heard about it. How do I provide it? A Notary Public is mandatory, or are there other easy ways to do it? Thanks in advance. | | | John Fossey Canada Local time: 15:26 Member (2008) French to English + ... I have been asked for this a couple of times. What I have done is write a declaration, either as a separate document or an addition to the bottom of the document, that reads something like: "I, xxx, professional translator, do hereby certify that this translation is, to the best of my knowledge and ability, a true, accurate, complete and faithful rendering from the original [language] into [language]." and a signature line over my name. Then there is the text for the Notary Public. A Notary Public in the United States only witnesses the signature and the identity and free will of the signatory. It is not the same as a Notario Público in Mexico or a Notary in Canada, who are a form of lawyer. A bank manager or municipal clerk is usually one. In some places the equivalent to a Notary Public in the U.S. is called a Commissioner of Oaths or a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits. Check if these will be acceptable to the client. After the above text, the Notary Public needs a text something like: "Signed before me, xxx, Notary Public for the state of xxxx, at [place] on [date]" and a signature line and space for their stamp or seal. The statement has to be signed in front of the Notary Public who then attests to the signature. For all this, check with your client first. There may be specific wording they want, or you can suggest it. ▲ Collapse | | | | John Fossey Canada Local time: 15:26 Member (2008) French to English + ... Notary Public | Jan 17, 2019 |
However, those certificates still need the text for the Notary Public.
