Spaces before and after a tag in HTML files are deleted during translation

I have the following content in an HTML file:

{p}The parameter {font face="MONOSPACE"}size{/font} displays the number of list entries.{/p}

NOTE: I've replaced the angle brackets with curly brackets to prevent the text from being parsed!

During translation, the spaces before the opening tag and behind the closing tag are being deleted.
Is there anything that I can do to prevent this?
Thank you!
