http://hkbbs.aboluowang.com/thread-979907-1-1.html

Steve,

I know Austin is not directly in the path of Harvey, but it is reportedly one of the wettest hurricanes on record. Hope you are dry and fine now.

Hurricane Katrina (Aug. 23-25, 2005) may be the deadliest in recent history with well over one thousand fatalities, and comparatively Harvey (Aug. 26-28, 2017) has just caused forty some death, but the destruction Harvey caused to properties might be more than Katrina did, because Houston is such a large sprawling city and so flat with no major rivers to dump all that water. Looking at all these houses under water makes me recall the scenes of devastation in New Orleans back in 2005.

Hoping the worst is over for you guys near the Caribbean Coast.

Thanks, David. Here in Austin we had a couple days of rainfall(I myself measured 13.5" from the rain gauge in my backyard), but it was only the result of the outer bands of the hurricane, nothing compared to the Houston, Beaumont area where severe flooding occurred.

It's indeed heartrending to see all the property damage and human suffering on such a large scale.

Some people say a man is made outta mud

A poor man's made outta muscle and blood

Muscle and blood and skin and bones

A mind that's weak and a back that's strong

You load sixteen tons, what do you get?

Another day older and deeper in debt

Saint Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go

I owe my soul to the company store

I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine

I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine

I loaded sixteen tons of number nine coal

And the straw boss said "well, bless my soul"

I was born one mornin', it was drizzlin' rain

Fightin' and trouble are my middle name

I was raised in the canebrake by an ol' mama lion

Can't no high-toned woman make me walk the line

If you see me comin', better step aside

A lotta men didn't, a lotta men died

One fist of iron, the other of steel

If the right one don't get you then the left one will

A 1955 version recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford reached number one in the Billboard charts, while another version by Frankie Laine was released only in Western Europe, where it gave Ford's version competition.
On March 25, 2015, it was announced that Ford's version of the song will be inducted into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry.

John Henry Sep 2, 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfx7Ym4YhlA&t=8s

John Henry (Tennessee Ernie Ford)

When John Henry was a little bitty boy
Sittin’ on his mammy’s knee
He picked up a hammer and a little piece of steel
Said this hammer gonna be the death of me
This hammer gonna be the death of me

When John Henry was a little baby
No bigger than the palm of your hand
His mammy looked down at little Johnny and said
My Johnny gonna be a steel-drivin’ man, yes, he is
My Johnny gonna be a steel-drivin’ man

John Henry was a steel-drivin’ man
Drove steel all over the land
Before I let the steam hammer get me down
I’m a-gonna die with my hammer in my hand
Die with my hammer in my hand

John Henry went to the tunnel to drive
Steam hammer by his side
He beat the steam hammer to the top of the hill
He laid down his hammer and he cried, oh Lord
Laid down his hammer and he cried

The captain said to John Henry
I believe that mountain’s cavin’ in
John Henry just laughed at the captain and said
That ain’t nothin’ but my hammer suckin’ wind, h'yeah
Nothin’ but my hammer suckin’ wind

John Henry had a lovin’ little wife
Her name was Polly Ann
Johnny got sick and he had to go to bed
Polly drove steel like a man, yes
Polly drove steel like a man

They buried John Henry in the graveyard
They laid him down in the sand
Every time a freight train comes puffin’ by
They’d say yonder lies a steel-drivin’ man
Yonder lies a steel-drivin’ man

还有 a back that's strong 译成“背硬”;此处应该用“腰”字。

Ouch! my lower-back is killing me!”)
