Here is update number 4 on ProZ.com's ongoing initiative to further market your services to the world's top language companies and end clients.

Activities:

* Internally, we have decided to call the program "Project Connect". "ProZ.com for Employers" is the name we will continue to use, at least for now, with clients. Thanks to the members who suggested a change.

* We published a press release on Mike Kidd having joined to lead Project Connect.

* We identified the significance of the problem of incomplete profiles. To address it, we created a quick profile updater - at http://www.proz.com/quick_profile - and posted invitation on the home page for all members to update their profiles by October 18 (that was Oct 7.) The response has been outstanding, and prospective clients have taken note of the initiative.

Mike is currently sending requests to all members who have not yet updated their profiles to do so. This will help make his job of attracting top clients easier. (The giveaway drawing will be held Wednesday.)

* We have engaged a design firm to refresh the look and feel of our platform to make it easier to use, and more appealing and intuitive to outsourcers. Several members and outsourcers have spoken directly with the firm to help make sure the design appropriate for our community. Thanks!

* We will be exhibiting Project Connect / ProZ.com for Employers to clients at the upcoming Localization World in Montreal. Members Sylvie Nault and Nancy Lynn Bogar (also a moderator) responded to the call for French-speaking members to represent our membership at the conference. They will be in the booth with us (Mike, myself and another new team member soon to be announced), telling the story of ProZ.com and its members.

Mike was at another show last week, and we'll also be exhibiting at the upcoming ATA conference.

As a result of these activities, some of you have already received a premium job posting or been contacted via premium directory searches, and a few members have been invited to work with premium job posters. So we have signs that the program may be working.

We'll keep you posted.

It would be really helpful if you showed this link on the profile pages, where users could easily find it. At present, the task of editing or updating the profile is not very intuitive. The profile updater is easy to use; it should also be easy to find, IMO.

It is available in the My ProZ.com menu, marked as a "new" feature.

Thanks, Gianfranco, that's good to know. Oct 14, 2006

I never thought of looking for it there. But then, that's my point, isn't it?

I won't have a problem any more, since now I know where to look. Maybe it was the obvious place (to everyone but Chinoise and me), but it didn't occur to me. When I wanted to upload my CV, I went to my profile page and looked for info about updating the page.

All I'm saying is, a link on the profile page to the profile updater would make the process more convenient.

In any case,

Dear Henry,

How can I tell how I show up in premium directory searches?

Kind regards,

Good question, Gerard Oct 14, 2006

We have not released the interface to anyone but select clients, so it is not something you can check for yourself. But I can tell you that the information shown in premium directory listings is the information shown in your quick profile updater. And the profile is the same profiles. In other words, you can control how you appear in the premium directory by making sure that the information in your quick profile updater is exactly the way you want it to be.

I hope you can appreciate why we will not be releasing the premium directory to the general public. The clients are paying for something special, and besides, we don't want to make things too easy for copycat sites.

Dear Henry,

I didn't understand "And the profile is the same profiles."

I do understand all your efforts to keep the premium drectory something special, but I'm a paying member of this site and I want to know if translators who have opted out of Portfolio, WWA, Project history and CV/Resume are still considered 'premium translators'.

All paying members should have a Premium button to toggle the premium view of this site.

Regards,
Gerard

Hi Henry,

If a client does a premium search, are the results still displayed according to the number of Kudoz points you have? Just curious.

Thanks and best wishes,
Mark

What are the criteria upon which translators will be included in the Premium search? All translators? Only members? Only members who have filled their profile completely? Maybe this should be made clear...

Edit: ok, I understand that the feature will only be available to members... see http://www.proz.com/topic/55664

But to all members? Or is there a selective criterium also for members?

Giovanni

Gerard, your request for insight into how your listing appears is noted; it is a good idea. The premium searches are still in a state of flux, but when things settle in we'll provide it.

Beyond that, I am afraid I can not go into too much detail without disclosing things that are confidential to the business. I hope you understand and will let us continue to concentrate on working for you by bringing in new clients.

Localization World starts tomorrow...
