memoQ translator pro is a computer-assisted translation tool which runs on Microsoft Windows and on Mac using Parallels or VMWareFusion. It was envisioned more than 12 years ago by a group of enthusiastic linguists who aimed to develop innovative translation software which increases translator's productivity while being easy to learn and use.
Translation memory

Integration with Language Terminal

Dr. Christopher Kronen . When for a still unexplained reason my DejaVuX3 software would no longer even install on my Windows 10 PC in the fall of 2020, this was the software that I chose as my new primary CAT tool, and I do not regret doing so.
It is easy to learn and is much more DejaVu-like than the cumbersome Trados Studio CAT tool experience and its terminology management solution (Multiterm) as a separate program with a plethora of settings/options that most translators will never use.
For overall simplicity of use, everything should really be integrated under a single GUI, as is the case with memoQ (presently version 9.10.14).
I like the GUI itself which is well designed with a judicious and appropriate use of colors to enhance clarity and understanding of what is going on while translating. Many menus, submenus and options are available in the different ribbons, but a period of familiarization solves most initial difficulties.
Templates are available for translating projects, but I find myself using the create a project and translate without a template option. Recurring projects with repetitive tasks will make the template translation option more attractive.
A large variety of software plugins is included in memoQ. One plugin worth activating and using is the completely free machine translation plugin from Microsoft. Save yourself the cost of subscribing to DeepL Translate unless you have a very good reason for doing so.
Live Docs is also a worthwhile and unique memoQ feature that gets used during all my translations.
The integration with TransPDF online has also been used frequently. This has not only proven useful for live PDF documents but also for scanned documents since the online OCR functionality has proven to be very good, if the copies are sharp, dark, and clear.
I like the frequent software update policy of memoQ (once every 30 days or so). Everything is kept at the forefront of technology and all updates process smoothly. The 64-bit software itself is rock solid and requires a much smaller footprint on my PC than a bulky Trados Studio installation would with its still included 32-bit OS compatibility.
One feature that every translator is bound to love every day is the automatic save feature of memoQ. Everything gets saved all the time in real time. Thus, the dreaded experience of losing work and having to start over again due to a software crash before saving (as in the case of Trados Studio) is something that cannot happen with memoQ. Unlike Trados, memoQ crashes very rarely, if at all.
Software support from memoQ has always been excellent so far. The few times that I have had questions of normal priority a pertinent answer was always forthcoming within 24 hours or less.
For extremely urgent questions, the response time will be even less, and you will possibly receive a phone call, depending on the nature of the problem.
All translators should certainly consider taking the latest version of memoQ for a test drive by downloading the software and starting a free-30-day trial which unlocks all its features without any limitations.
YouTube has many pertinent and helpful videos available for software familiarization and training.
If you are looking for a new CAT tool, give memoQ a try. I highly recommend it!

How easy is it to learn?
OK but that's not enough to use it professionnally

Sanja_FR . This CAT tool is OK to work with but ugh. The interface is not clear, everything is cluttered, the autocomplete text is a nightmare, the QA tool is useless.
For some reason, someone decided that the differences between the TM and the current sentence should have a nearly invisible highlight. Context checks are tedious, the glossary and TM windows are not user-friendly. I mean it sort of does the job if you don't look too closely, but really I stay away from this one as much as I can.

Selcuk AkyuzmemoQ has some great features but you need to read the complete help file and read the discussions at Yahoo memoQ group to be productive. Although translation environment is good, TermBase management is poor. qTerm developed by Kilgray is for agencies not translators. Overall, memoQ is a good CAT tool (like Deja Vu X2 and SDL Trados Studio) but it is not for the beginners.

Jerzy Czopik . Same as Studio, MemoQ has a lot of options, out of which many are very well hidden.
MemoQ is very fast - and I would even say it beats Studio in that respect. But in the end only in that respect.
This tool can be very well used as a preparation tool for Studio and then for some special operations Studio would be too slow for. But then MemoQ is not really well configurable to your needs.
Preparing projects in the freelance version of MemoQ is cumbersome and need to redo all the settings every time you start a new project.
You can autopropagate segments, but you cannot steer how the AP goes. Either it is there or not. No fine tuning for this.
You can filter your view (well, another great thing about MemoQ - the easily created views) by source and target term. But you can't filter for source with a certain term where it#s translation in target is missing - so the advantage of this dual screen filter is very limited.
You cannot split the GUI on another screen, so the GUI remains overloaded and is not really good legible.
As overall performance my second best choice after SDL Trados Studio.
