Mein Name ist Hasso. Hasso Longnose. Und ich renne gerade um mein Leben. Deswegen kann ich mich leider nicht so ausführlich vorstellen, wie es die Höflichkeit einem britischen Mops normalerweise gebietet.
Nur eines, ganz kurz: Es hat gewisse Vorzüge ein Mops zu sein, vom blendenden Aussehen angefangen, über die zeitlose Eleganz, bis hin zu beeindruckender Intelligenz.
Und es hat einige Nachteile, wobei mich momentan nur einer interessiert: meine kurzen Beine.
Jedenfalls sind sie kürzer als die der deutschen Dogge, die mich gerade verfolgt: Arnold, dieser Neureichen-Hooligan, der - glaubt man den Gerüchten - schon einige Hunde auf dem Gewissen hat. Wenn mir nicht bald etwas einfällt, bin ich der Nächste.
Denn er ist nur noch drei Hundelängen hinter mir – und mit Hundelängen meine ich leider Mopslängen.
Wahrscheinlich könnte Arnold noch stundenlang so weiterrennen, jedenfalls kommt sein Schnaufen immer näher, präzise wie eine Maschine. Mein Hecheln hingegen wird immer hektischer. Kein Wunder, Arnold trainiert im Hundesportverein und ich nicht.
Selbst wenn ich es gewollt hätte, die hätten mich nie zur Aufnahmeprüfung zugelassen.
Denn wie es sich für einen ordentlichen Mops gehört, bin ich übergewichtig – neben meinen kurzen Beinen der Hauptgrund, weswegen ich Arnolds Geifer inzwischen direkt in meinem Nacken spüre.

Arnold could probably go on like this for hours, at any rate I can hear his loud breathing catching up, like a well-oiled machine. My wheezing, on the other hand, is becoming increasingly fast-paced. Not surprising since Arnold is training at a canine sports club and I am not.
Even if I had wanted to, they would never have let me take the admissions test. For I am overweight, like any decent pug should be – apart from my short legs, this is the main reason why I can now feel Arnold's slobber on my neck.
