Source text - German § 56 Strafaussetzung
(1) Bei der Verurteilung zu Freiheitsstrafe von nicht mehr als einem Jahr setzt das Gericht die Vollstreckung der Strafe zur Bewährung aus, wenn zu erwarten ist, daß der Verurteilte sich schon die Verurteilung zur Warnung dienen lassen und künftig auch ohne die Einwirkung des Strafvollzugs keine Straftaten mehr begehen wird. Dabei sind namentlich die Persönlichkeit des Verurteilten, sein Vorleben, die Umstände seiner Tat, sein Verhalten nach der Tat, seine Lebensverhältnisse und die Wirkungen zu berücksichtigen, die von der Aussetzung für ihn zu erwarten sind.
(2) Das Gericht kann unter den Voraussetzungen des Absatzes 1 auch die Vollstreckung einer höheren Freiheitsstrafe, die zwei Jahre nicht übersteigt, zur Bewährung aussetzen, wenn nach der Gesamtwürdigung von Tat und Persönlichkeit des Verurteilten besondere Umstände vorliegen. Bei der Entscheidung ist namentlich auch das Bemühen des Verurteilten, den durch die Tat verursachten Schaden wiedergutzumachen, zu berücksichtigen.
(3) Bei der Verurteilung zu Freiheitsstrafe von mindestens sechs Monaten wird die Vollstreckung nicht ausgesetzt, wenn die Verteidigung der Rechtsordnung sie gebietet.
(4) Die Strafaussetzung kann nicht auf einen Teil der Strafe beschränkt werden. Sie wird durch eine Anrechnung von Untersuchungshaft oder einer anderen Freiheitsentziehung nicht ausgeschlossen.
Translation - English § 56 Suspended Sentences
(1) The Court may suspend custodial sentences of no longer than a year in favour of probation if it is expected that the convict will let the conviction serve as a warning and will not reoffend in the future, even without the influence of a custodial sentence. Consideration is herein to be given to the character of the convict, his background, the circumstances of the crime, his actions after the crime, his personal circumstances and the expected effects of release.
(2) The Court may, under the provisions of paragraph 1, also suspend for probation a longer custodial sentence, not exceeding two years, if special circumstances are deemed to exist after a holistic evaluation of the crime and the character of the convict. In making this decision, particular consideration is to be given to the attempts of the convict to provide resititution for the damage caused.
(3) Custodial sentences of at least six months will not be suspended if necessary in the interest of legal order.
(4) Sentences may not be partially suspended. Consideration of time served, including in pretrial custody, does not preclude the suspension of a sentence.

Die Hand griff jedoch nicht nach dem Brief, sondern nach dem Wäschestück, das auf der rechten Seite des Nähtisches lag. Sie nahm es auseinander und hielt es gegen das Fenster, um dann die fadenscheinige Stelle sorgfältig mit feinstem Garn in kleinen Stichen zu wiebeln.
Der Kanarienvogel im Käfig auf der breiten Fensterbank neben den Kakteen wetzte seinen Schnabel und begann einen Triller. Dann lugte er mit geneigtem Köpfchen zu der alten Dame hin. Er wünschte, angesprochen zu werden.

I am a Canadian court interpreter and translator working in English, German, Russian and Spanish. I interpret and translate between German and English, my native languages, and also translate into the same from Russian and Spanish.
Having grown up speaking English and German and having received a completely bilingual education from Kindergarten up to the university level, I am in a unique position to navigate between the two languages and between their respective cultural and literary spaces as well.
At university, I specialized in Russian and Spanish, graduating with a First Class Honours BA. Studying these two quite different languages and cultures served to round out my education as a translator; in addition, I gained considerable practical experience living and working as a translator and interpreter in Kyrgyzstan, Spain, Germany and Ukraine. I am now engaged in full-time translation and interpretation work while continuing to study languages in my spare time.
The most extensive portion of my professional experience has been in the fields of criminal law, contract law and marketing (tourism and business), but I am always open to new topics and love to take on a variety of assignments. I have been consistently active in the field for seven years and have gathered a broad spectrum of relevant education and experience.
