Source text - French La nouvelle se répand rapidement en Pologne et dans le monde entler : apres 33 jours de pontificat meurt soudainement le "pape du sourire", lean Paul I, Albino Luciani. Les cardinaux _
polonais se rendent à Rome pour les obsèques. Notre jeune cardinal Karol Wojtyla participe aussi aux prières à l'intentlon du pape défunt. Après la célébration des obsèques toute l'Eglise prie pour le choix d'un nouveau pape.
Dans notre église paroissiale de la Présentation de la Vierge Marie à Wadowice on récite le chapelet, l'église est bondée. Parmi les fidèles il y a beaucoup d’enfants. Le 15 octobre 1978 notre
sacristain Aleksander Spisak nous dit : "Peut—être notre cardinal Karol Wojtyla deviendra—t’il pape? ll y avait des journalistes de Varsovie chez le prélat Edward Zachen ils posaient des questions sur la vie de notre cardinal, depuis son plus jeune âge".
Le conclave est en cours à Rome. Nous écoutons les informations à la radio. Avons—nous déjà un nouveau pape?
Le lendemain nous nous réunissons à nouveau pour réciter le chapelet. L'église est a nouveau bondée. Nous prions avec ardeur pour le choix du successeur de Saint Pierre. Juste avant la
bénédiction, le père Filip Piotrowski, vicaire de Wadowice, sort de la sacristie avec les mains levées vers le ciel et il annonce solennellement aux fidèles : "Notre—Dame du Perpétuel Secours a permis que notre cardinal de Cracovie Karol Wojtyla soit élu pape. La radio vient d’annoncer cette nouvelle". Une immense joie gagne les fidèles. Pleurs et cris s'élèvent jusqu'au ciel, ainsi que des "Te Deum laudamus" de remerciement.
Translation - Italian La notizia di sparge rapidamente, in Polonia come nel resto del mondo: dopo soli 33 giorni di pontificato, muore improvvisamente “il papa del sorriso”, Giovanni Paolo I, al secolo Albino Luciani. I cardinali polacchi si recano a Roma per i funerali. Anche il nostro giovane cardinale Karol Wojtyla partecipa alle preghiere e alle intenzioni per il papa defunto. Dopo la celebrazione delle esequie tutta la Chiesa prega per la scelta del nuovo pontefice. Nella nostra comunità parrocchiale della Presentazione della Vergine Maria a Wadowice si recita il rosario, la chiesa è stracolma. Tra i fedeli molti sono bambini. Il 15 ottobre 1978 il sagrestano Aleksander Spisak ci dice: “Forse che il nostro Karol Wojtyla diventerà papa? C’erano dei
giornalisti di Varsavia dal prelato Edward Zacher, a chiedere informazioni sulla vita del cardinale, anche a proposito dei suoi trascorsi giovanili”. A Roma è in corso il conclave. Noi ascoltiamo le informazioni alla radio: forse abbiamo già un nuovo papa?
L’indomani ci riuniamo nuovamente per la recita del rosario, e di nuovo la chiesa si riempie.
Preghiamo con fervore per la scelta del successore di San Pietro. Appena prima delle benedizione padre Filip Piotrowski, vicario di Wadowice, esce dalla sagrestia con le mani levate al cielo e annuncia solennemente ai fedeli: “Per mezzo dell’intercessione di Nostra Signora del perpetuo Soccorso il cardinale di Cracovia Karol Wojtyla è stato eletto papa. Ne hanno appena dato annuncio alla radio”. Una gioia immensa investe i fedeli, tra pianti e grida di giubilo che si levano al cielo, insieme all’intonazione del “Te Deum laudamus” a ringraziamento per la lieta novella.

Source text - English Hugo Bernatzik travelled for over a year, between 1932 and 1933, to the Solomon Islands, New Guinea and Bali. His lively and fascinating account of the trip and his observations on myths, customs and traditions of the people he encountered were published as a book: "Sudsee: Travels in the South Seas" and soon after translated into English. [..] Bernatzik's images are always informative, but the images reproduced in the book have to be appreciated especially for their high aesthetic value and their capacity to bring to life the spirit of the peoples portrayed. The photographs in the book, full of movement and life, depict fascinating actions such as the turtle hunt in the Solomon Islands reef or seafaring on an oroum - a Papuan double canoe. [..]Everyday life in villages and the habits proper to each particular group come to life in the photographs. Finally, an astounding series of portraits gives us an idea of the wonderful adornments worn by the people of the South Seas.
Translation - Italian Hugo Bernatzik fece un viaggio che durò più di un anno, tra il 1932 e il 1933, nelle Isole Salomone, Nuova Guinea e a Bali. Il suo rendiconto di viaggio, al tempo stesso vivo e accattivante, e le sue osservazioni dei miti, costumi e tradizioni dei popoli che incontrò furono pubblicati in un libro, "Sudsee: Travels in the South Seas", che fu presto tradotto in inglese.
