Hello dealing with barrel wear testing of a machine gun. I am not sure of the steps, here.
Doese it mean that they checking loaded rounds and blanks? What are they checking - headspace?

Prima del test, sono stati misurati partendo dal vivo di volata i pieni ed i vuoti della canna ad ogni 50 mm dallo stesso. La misura è stata ripetuta negli stessi punti dopo 5.000 colpi ed al termine della prova. questo per accertare eventuali variazioni di dimensione causate dall’usura della canna. La misurazione è stata eseguita con alesametro marca MITUTOYO. Mod. ID – C112B in dotazione al Laboratorio metrologico di questo Ente

They are measuring the diameter of the grooves and lands (= 'groove diameter' and 'bore diameter', which together are usually described as 'rifling') of the barrel, at a distance of 50 mm from the muzzle (= 'vivo di volata').
