After reading these definitions, I googled for “functional fire” which brought up a myriad of functional fire extinguishers :-) but no convincing results.

Via some detours(googling for beneficial, purposeful, controlled, contained etc. fire, I found that this type of fire seems to be simply called ” cooking and heating fires” !

By the 1990s, cooking fires had reemerged as the largest single cause of house fires in the United States, though the number of *cooking and heating fires* ...

Thanks, this is what I did call it due to the same definition I had found. Those dictionaries calling it a friendly fire definitely need to be changed

disagree  Andras Malatinszky: A couple of years ago I lived in a place that was heated with a heat pump. We cooked on an electric stove and our hot water heater was electric too. Fire was simply not a "standard domestic heat source."
