Context:

Note per/dal richiedente
James Whitten: 22:38 Feb 28, 2008: For the first one, could it be "casino tables"? And rather than "slot machines", do you think "gambling" or "gaming" machines could be used? (I already have 2 other terms translated as "slot machines"!
Courtney Sliwinski: 22:46 Feb 28, 2008: Both casino tables and gaming tables check out. These would be acceptable if you need a little variety in the vocabulary.
Hilary Davies: 23:16 Feb 28, 2008: Hi James, I've been reading a bit more of your text online, and I think the difference is more complex than simply tables vs slots. There seems (to me) to be a distinction between gambling (tables and slots) in Spielbanken and the gambling machines
Hilary Davies: 23:18 Feb 28, 2008: available in Spielstaetten. Section 2.2, in particular, seems to indicate that the term "Geldgewinnspiel" can also refer to slot machines - see "Gewerbliches Geldgewinnspiel kontra Automatenspiel der Spielbanken". It's an interesting text, but confusing!
James Whitten: 23:25 Feb 28, 2008: Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds this confusing!
Steffen Walter: 08:03 Feb 29, 2008: See http://www.proz.com/kudoz/2437945 - why have you asked the same question twice?
James Whitten: 11:02 Feb 29, 2008: It's not the same question. I need to see the distinction between the these two terms.
Steffen Walter: 11:48 Feb 29, 2008: Aha - thank you for the clarification.

Tables (games where money can be won)/ slot machines (devices where money can be won)
Spiegazione:
My understanding here, is that they are once again talking about the difference between tables and slot machines. I know that in Germany (as in several European countries) they have places where one can play only slot machines. Tables can only be played at casinos, which tend to attract a more upscale crowd (higher limits, dress code, etc.).

disaccordo Hilary Davies: I'm not sure that this is the case here. I think this text refers to distinctions made between types of building/business (Spielbank vs Spielstaette), both of which can have slot machines.//I think the difference is more complex than tables vs slots?

-> but the question is in reference to the different types of games, he doesn't want the names for the different types of establishments.

Also, gambling - for reasons unbeknownst to me - is never used. It is always "gaming" (doesn't sound so sinful, we are in the US after all).
