Penso que seja um navio de guerra, equipado com canhões instalados no casco que são disparados para bombardear outros navios.

Os canhões foram instalados pela primeira vez em Portugal para a defesa das fronteiras, rios e mares. Em Lisboa, os canhões também foram instalados em navios com casco reforçado para mil tonéis, cujo modelo foi utilizado na construção de caravelas.[1]

Não consegui encontrar nenhum termo mais técnico, mas julgo que a ideia é esta, salvo se "hull gun" for o nome do local de onde sai o canhão, que me parece ser chamado de "boca de fogo", sem muita certeza.
