English term or phrase: lifeline
Two-week lifeline for Zims in SA

The South African government last week gave a lifeline to Zimbabweans who had not yet collected their special dispensation by the initial deadline of September 30.

Amid earlier concerns that the deadline would not be extended, the Department of Home Affairs, itself having failed to meet it in processing the permits, extended the collection period to October 15 and indicated that even that one might still be subject to some flexibility.
